    Am I missing something? *fixed*

Maybe it's a stupid question but I've been trying to get into the Coop/Multiplayer of SCC and I don't understand the matchmaking system at all. The search goes on for several minutes and if I'm lucky I'll find someone to play hunter with. Never found any Story Coop, Face Off or Infiltration. I don't have any friends (yet) and the Splinter Cell Match page seems completely broken. Is there some other way for people to find matches and people to play with? Is there any way to find out how many players are online or which created matches are available?I'd use Tunngle except I get error messages whenever I try to join a LAN game.Thx in advance!

Not a stupid question at all

Hello Fatal_Croissant... "Am I missing something?"... is not a stupid question at all... in fact it's probably the single most question every Splinter Cell Conviction has asked himself at one time or another while trying to play multiplayer online. Unlike most other games, Splinter Cell Conviction requires very specific ports to be opened in your router and firewall (Internet Ports are Required to Play Splinter Cell: Conviction Online) and if these ports are not opened, you will never be able to play Splinter Cell Conviction multiplayer online successfully. Although it is possible to join a host without opening ports (and in some cases, even play for a while), but eventually it will have terrible lag and/or "multiplayer simulation out-of-sync" crash. By-the-way, don't waste your time at www.splintercell.com/match... it's a pathetic website (and I'm being kind). Here are a couple of tips on opening ports in router (port forwarding):

    a. Find your router in one of these guides and follow instructions
    http://www.pcwintech.com/port-forwarding-guides or http://portforward.com/english/route...outerindex.htm

    b. Download and install Simple Port Tester (its free) and verify if the Splinter Cell Conviction ports are open. Be sure to use internal IP address and not external IP address when port forwarding and port testing. If you are uncertain what your internal IP address is, go to Windows/Start/Run/type cmd and hit enter... at the command prompt, type ipconfig /all and hit enter... look under Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 1 for IPv4 Address... this is your local IP address (should be something like 192.168.1.xxx). If after opening ports in router and firewall (or any other programs that could be blocking/monitoring ports) you test all these ports and it reads "Failed", then you have closed ports... if you test all these ports and it reads "Successful", then you're ready to play Splinter Cell Conviction multiplayer on-line. Good luck.

Thank you for your answer Green Hornet! Unfortunately I've already opened all the ports necessary for SCC and I've used PFPortChecker to make sure they're open. So everything seems to be in order.

My main problem isn't that I can't join games. I can, it's just that it takes alot of time for the matchmaking to find a game and I can never be sure that it actually will. If I could somehow see how many people were currently online playing SCC I would have a clue or even better if I could see which private matches were available. This is my problem there's too little information! I don't have a lot of free time to spend on searching for available matches that might not even be there. I just want to get in and have some stealthy fun!

    Good times!

Green Hornet, thx for the good times playing! I haven't had this much fun before playing the game!
FYI, I'm a 25 year old swede, with a daughter who's sleeping in the same room as my computer, that's why I couldn't talk back to you with voice chat, she was sleeping. My situation isn't ideal but it'll hopefully change for the better in september when I move to another city to go to med school. I love your play style, it seems to match my own rather nicely too! ^^

About my issues, all my ports seem to be open when I test them with PFPortChecker (the one you get for free on portforward.com). If it's unreliable perhaps you can recommend a better open port tester? My firewall was down during our entire session so I don't know why you couldn't join me but I could join you. Could it be my Anti-virus program (Avira)? On a side note, why's there no text chat!? Chaos Theory had text chat! :/

Anyways, thx for the good times! Sorry I couldn't play longer but a guy has to sleep! (Seriously I could've gone on forever!!! )

    Cheers! 8)

I think I fixed my problem now! I had forgotten to open the outbound TCP ports! This might explain why I could play sometimes but not always as my ports were only partially opened. I haven't had time to try it yet but I would guess my connection problems are gone now. I can probably even use Tunngle.

Thank you for all the help I got and I apologize for my blunder. ^^
