Same thing here. Manually checked all 1.save locations, definitely missing about 2 or 3 hours of progress. Very discouraging.

I attempted to post a question on the support page, but I got "A problem has been encountered. Your question could not be processed." kicked back at me, so I'll cut/paste everything to here.

FYI, prior to the new UPlay client being installed, I have not had a save game issue (and very few client issues) with Assassin's Creed II (DVD retail copy).

A week or so ago, I had played a session of AC2 where I cleared all the feathers and viewpoints in the San Marco area of Venice, along with the seal memory in that area. The next day, I launched UPlay/AC2, and the save game that gets loaded for that profile is a rollback to at least 2 save games prior (where I hadn't even played any San Polo memories other than the tour with Leonardo and our guide.)
I didn't play then, and launched the game 3 more times over the next day and a half, always getting the same save load location. The last time, figuring the saves were gone, I played for about an hour, saved and logged. Launched AC2 again later that day, and the save load was the San Marco save I had lost 2 days ago. Played again for about an hour, saved, and logged.
The next day when I tried to play, I got rolled back to the San Polo save I mentioned before (just after the tour.)

I haven't yet tried any resolution, such as turning off save syncing within the cloud.

Is there any way to get back the 4-5 hours of gameplay I've lost, and keep it?

This just happened to me also. I assume this issue still being looked into by Ubisoft? I hesitate to play now.

Should I see a list of all the previous saves (if it was working correctly) in the Load screen or just the latest one? Either way I see just the old one only.

I just had the same problem! I was trailing people in Venice, then, all of the sudden, my UPlay and AC2 both crash. Then, when I load it back up, I'm all the way back in Florence. Over a week of gameplay gone! I demand a fix! I want to be back in Venice! Is there any way to get it back, or, like, have a save file that is roughly where I was be sent to me in some way... or... something. PLEASE! I had done so many assassinations, so many glyph pieces, so many side-quests... I don't know if I could go through all of that again! I need a fix and I need my old save games back! I tried the whole thing where you turn off the synching with the cloud, and I've made sure my SpyBot Search and Destroy was turned off... but nothing.

I NEED MY SAVE GAME BACK.

(I have sent something to Ubisoft, BTW)

    I had exactly this.

I 'Fixed' (Worked around) it by going to settings in uplay, and disabling the cloud save synchronisation.

I raised an incident with support and the advice was to:

    - Uninstall Uplay PC
    - Ensure that the ‘Ubisoft Game Launcher’ folder has been deleted from Program Files
    - Reinstall Uplay PC from http://www.uplay.com
    - Sign into the Uplay account and start the game as normal

As this sounded like an utter blag, and i had played several more hours, and didnt fancy having my save reset.....again, i have not tested this.

If anyone is braver than me and wants to test that, please do

I just lost 2 weeks of progress in AC2 after the Uplay update. Your cloud sync DOES NOT WORK.

What the hell kind of shoddy *** operation are you running here?!

Solution - Shutdown Cloud Save Synchronization

Yup, also I have this error since the last update Uplay (I think). I was at the beginning of Venice after surpassing everything before Venice. When I returned a few hours later, my saved game placed me in Tuscany, with no mission accomplished, no tower synchronized, no special object / treasure collected, etc.. and everytimr I restart the game (even surpassing missions in this circumstance) I returned to that saved game in question.

I guess, like many of you mention it, is a problem with the last Uplay update, related with the save files sync on the servers and our games, and possibly this update choose randomly one saved file and start constantly with such save file, no matter how we change or do in that game saved (even happens when I delete it and start a new game).

Maybe you people did already, but I solved it just turning off the Cloud Save Synchronization option in Uplay settings, until Ubisoft solve the problem.

    Good luck.

I just tried this (After backing up my save games). It seemed to work and put me back where I should have been.

I find this inconceivable, unacceptable, even pathetic. How can you be aware of this issue for so long and not do a thing about it? Really, what kind of company is Ubisoft that releases games with glitches, gets feedback from the players and doesn't gives a **** about sorting them out? People have payed for the game, therefore they have the right to have things working properly and you have the obligation to make sure such happens. It is understandable that, upon release, bugs might be found, but after so many posts about this issue, for over two years, not doing **** about it is just outrageous. I am not going to buy your products again and if depends on me, the people I know won't either. Ubisoft is pathetic.
