buying the download from ubisoft
When I purchase the download version of the game from Ubisoft, what exactly happens? Is it a file that I download that I can be used on another computer, or does the game install directly onto the computer the game is bought from? Also, does Ubisoft require an internet connection to play this game? It didn't when I originally bought it, but that was long time ago and policies have changed. Just wondering if I should by the download at Ubisoft or try to find a used version that will work with Windows 7 (Starforce problems won't let me play.

Nobody replied, but I am curious what you decided to do. I don't think you can play this game in Windows 7. I just bought it from Gamefly and downloaded and I am able to play the game fine in VM Player fine. I also noticed that I can play without an internet connection.

When you purchase a game from the Ubishop Online Store you will be directed to download the game in it entirety. Once it is downloaded you can click the Setup application in the download file to launch the installation. Once the game is installed it will play the same as the disk version of the game. You do not need to be on the internet to play the game once it has been downloaded.
It isn't guaranteed to run on Win 7 but I haven't heard too many people having issues with the downloadable version of the game on later Operating systems.

Huh?? I did not know you could play this game on Windows 7. I had it installed on a VMware Player XP mode so I could play it, but after reading pennygod's post above I decided to see if I could run it directly on Windows 7 and it works fine for me. I bought a downloaded version, but not form the Ubisoft Store, but I am playing it on Win 7 without any problems.

Hey dolphubisoft
I am glad you got the game up and running.
The main problems with running SH3 on the later operating systems was the disk check copy protection not being compatible with the new administrator functions in the OS. If you have the download version of the game it will bypasses the disk check all together. That being said, we still cannot guarantee that the game will run flawlessly or even launch on an unsupported operating system. Many unforeseen issues can occur. Some Microsoft updates may attribute to different compatibility issues.
