How do I get a steam refund?

This is the reply I got from Steam. Seems like an automated reply, which is disappointing.

    Hello,

A staff member has replied to your question:

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

If you are currently running Vista or Windows 7, please complete the instructions in the following link:

Title: Windows 7 and Vista Troubleshooting
    Link: http://support.steampowered.com/kb_a...5688-IFHZ-2170

If you are running in Windows XP, take the following steps:
    1) Exit Steam.
    2) Go to the "Start" menu, select "Run", type "regedit" and click "OK".
    3) Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\VALVE
    4) Right click and select "Permissions"
    5) Check the "Allow" boxes for "Admin" and "System" for both "Full control" and "Read".

The remaining steps apply to *all* versions of Windows.

Please also verify the GCF for this game as outlined here:

Title: Verifying Game Cache Files (GCF)
    Link: http://support.steampowered.com/kb_a...2037-QEUH-3335

Note: Files may fail to verify. This is normal and can be ignored.

    Then test the issue.

If you still have difficulty, you may also need to manually run secondary installers required by this game.

    Exit Steam entirely.

Browse to your Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Future Soldier installation folder (Usually C:\Program files\Steam\Steamapps\common\Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Future Soldier\)

    Run the following installers:

    C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Future Soldier\redist\vcredist_2008SP1_x86.exe
    C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Future Soldier\redist\DirectX\DXSETUP.exe

Reboot your computer and test the issue again.

If the issues persist, please complete these guides:

Title: This game is currently unavailable
    Link: http://support.steampowered.com/kb_a...4595-WEXN-6831

Title: Games do not run after 'Preparing to Launch'
    Link: http://support.steampowered.com/kb_a...6218-USFX-5568

If you are still having difficulty after going through this process, please contact the support team for this title:

Where do I go from here?

Steam won't give you a refund, you'll get thrown a bunch of links to useless threads and given generic "fixes". 3-4 days later after getting you jumping through hoops they'll up and say "We don't offer refunds unless it's a pre-order blah blah"

So Ubisoft stole our money and Steam/Valve won't help us out by giving us refunds and getting the money back from Ubi who wasted everyone's time with a bogus release that needs a good 4 months of development...

I really don't know what to say to this.

Other people have got refunds from Steam for this game. I wonder if any of them can offer me advice.

I got the exact same response yesterday. I've updated my ticket with them and said that it simply doesn't work after going through all their troubleshoots (which it doesn't). It's unfortunate that it takes a couple of days for them to respond though.

Yes, same response here. I guess it's their mandatory response for this game. I responded that I have tried these things and it still does not work. I have now made the gesture that I wish to have a more personal response in which they actually respond to my question of wanting a refund, and I also asked them whether they needed any additional information before being able to reimburst me with a refund. Hope this helps

I think they got too many simlar tickets so they create a template to auto reply
And yes, steam don't refund unless it's still in preorder state. It's normal considering that the SN/CD key it's one time use. But if you try harder(multiply tickets ) and get lucky, say meet a kind customer service, he/she may actually refund you. I heard that some dude bought a copy of ARMA II on steam and claim he didn't like the game(before he played it ) and asked for a refund, and he actually got it, "only for this time".
Sorry I can't provide some real advices. As for me, the game works, not as good, but I'll wait for the patch. Won't preorder any ubi games though.
    I5 2300, GTX460(1GB VRAM), 4GB RAM, Win7 64bit.
Yes I do have all the latest driver, patch, etc

You will most likely get the refund, It will just go to your steam wallet most likely as well. The last game I got a refund for they sent it to my steam wallet.
