I am having this very same problem havent been able to play the game since tuesday and this started after the new uplay update. You would think they would have responded to this thread by now with all the people unable to launch the game. I also bought mine through the gamestop app.
I uninstalled and re-installed using the new app and it now takes me to the game.(YAY) However Now all my savegames are gone!(BOO)
Ditto. Uninstalled (twice, once via the gamestop app (or maybe via the uplay app, can't recall) and then again via the control panel). After uninstalling, I reinstalled using the uplay app instead of gamestop (not sure if this matters). Had to install about 6 patches, each of which started the game (download patch, apply patch, start the game, quit the game, repeat about 6 times...ugh Ubisoft, ever hear of a cumulative patch? Or at least applying them all before starting the game?). After I finally got it patched back to 1.4 I was able to play. All of my save games were still there. When I uninstalled the game I told it to keep my profiles/settings/whatever. Also I have the uplay setting enabled to sync save games with the cloud.

Sorry about the multiple posts. I'm trying to post this message in A DIFFERENT THREAD related to this issue and it keeps posting it here instead!?!! What the hell? Well, I'd like to notify the people in that other thread how to fix this issue, but after 3 failed attempts, I give up.![]()
On recommendation from an email from support, I uninstalled via GameStop and reinstalled via Uplay, with similar results to those posted above. I'm having to start and then quit the game multiple times to get it patched correctly, and worst of all, my saved games are gone.
i think i;m experiencing this too. i usually reboot and then it's ok i guess.

I posted about this on the heroes facebook and got a response pretty quick saying they are aware of the issue and are currently working to resolve it.
