Hi everyone. I recently installed Myst IV from the DVD limited edition, once normally and then in compatibility mode with Windows XP SP3. The game crashes on startup with the following error:

I tried every forum suggestion, every compatibility mode/setting, etc. The configurator shows everything is compatible except my graphics driver, which is the latest version for my card, an AMD 6990M. I'm also attaching my DxDiag report:

If there is a file named "vpd.properties" on your hard disk, delete it. May not help, but it is IBM code and not useful, and has caused problems for others.

It could be a problem due to incompatible screen resolution (too high setting). Try lower setting like 1024x768 or something near it.

Edited with new possibilities after I did a Google search...

1- Problem Event Name: APPCRASH could be caused by a spyware infection.

2- It could also be caused by old (not updated) Nero software.

I am having the exact same problem as the original poster. I have Windows 7 and I can't get Myst 4 to run at all. It installs correctly, but pretty much instantly crashes when I try to run the game. I get the exact same appcrash error as the original poster. I have tried every suggestion I could find. Tried installing both patches. Tried every compatibility mode. I even tried installing XP Mode and running Myst 4 from there. And nothing has worked at all. I contacted tech support, but I have not yet heard back from them.

Oddly enough, all the other Myst games run fine. I'm not sure what is different about this one that makes it so incredibly buggy.
