    Strategy Session

Let's say that I want to start from scratch all over again. I want to unlock the hidden songs. At level 9 and with a dozen or so MM songs I probably won't be able to smash through a double encore and unlock anything if I get MM encores. I don't care about my score/level. I care about my skill level and the variety of songs I have at my disposal to practice. I want the songs I paid for when I bought the game. I want SSB. If I go back and start over will I lose all of my DLC or will it still be there since it is on my XBox hard drive? Also if I start out again what is the most efficient way of unlocking the hidden songs. I have Jules unlocked and I know that I will lose it by starting over but I want to unlock all of the others anyway. In the early stages I was a horrible player so when the unlockables were easier to obtain I wasn't good enough to get them. Now that I am at level 9 it seems completely impossible to crush a double encore and get the songs. I know that if I were better I would be able to just do it and that is fine but as I improve I also see myself getting MM on more songs since I have am in the 75- 90k range on a lot of songs. It's kind of a vicious cycle if you want the hidden tracks. Doing MM double encores when you haven't played a song in months seems to be a challenge for even the best of us. I figure if I tear through from the beginning I can pick up the stuff I missed out on so to recap.

    1. If I restart will I lose my DLC?
    2. What is the most efficient way of unlocking the songs? (Set list, venue, any tricks.)

Thanks for any insight you might have.

Oh and I did do a search for this info but some of it was a little old and there were some varying opinions so I figured I would ask for myself and see if there were any new/different insights.

    1. No, you won't loose anything - you'll always be able to redownload without charge.
    2. Some say to get the four easiest songs together and just play those in every event this will allow you the best chance to beat the first criteria of an Encore (95% accuracy in one or more of the arrangements)

Even so - there is only a 50% chance of a double encore.

So theoretically I could do that now and just swap out all of the songs on the generated set list with songs I am really good at? Am I overcomplicating this or is it really that simple?

It's that simple - but IMO not very fullfilling.

The ability to open the songs will always be there. Even after level 11.

If you want to make it REALLY easy then deliberately sandbag, this will help when you get random encores so they won't be too hard and keep the game from leveling up too fast. Delete all DLC that you're not good at, you can download them for free later. When the song levels start going up reset all mastery to minimum, then go into RR and level up the songs you are working on just enough to qualify. The next event you get will have much lower qualifying scores, only play well enough to meet the qualifying scores.

This is the super cheaterhead way to do it which worked for me just because I decided I wanted all the songs. I know you can do events forever and eventually get them or get them easily enough if you have talent which I don't. So there.

Bottom line: Why is this so important to you? There are only 6 secret squirrel songs and from what I hear at least a couple of them aren't even worth having. I got one - Space Ostrich, which is pretty cool. But, I'm not going to reset/restart my entire game or start fiddling setlists just to get the other five. Just something to think about.

I haven't heard that before. I thought you needed 120% of the initial required qualifying score (before adding/deleting/swapping songs) to get the first encore and 90% accuracy on the encore to get the second encore (or at least a 50/50 chance of getting it after the 90%).

I don't believe the why has anything to do with the how.

I myself thought of doing this to just see the 6 downloadable. Whether or not someone else likes them has no impact on whether or not I do.

There is another option for getting the unlockables. Although it is probably not quite as easy as starting over (but it might have other advantages to you).
It seems that getting double encores is really rare at level 9. I don't think I got any at that level no matter how well I crushed the set list. I'm sure I beat the 120% rule by an additional 80% several times and didn't get an encore. (I suspect there is a bug at level 9 as I have heard others complain about it). Then I hit level 10 and everything changed. I started to get encores, and they were the easier songs. And at level 11, I ALWAYS get an encore. To be fair, they are MM encores, but I only have a dozen or so mastered so it's not too hard to get the necessary score. Anyway, you could always back out and practice the MM encore, then play the set list again. The encore will be the same as long as you don't change the set list.

By my way of thinking, you have nothing to lose by soldiering on and getting to level 10 or 11 and see if you can get the unlocks then. You can always start over (I've done it three times, it's rather fun to crush the early songs; you really feel like you've learned something).
