Speaking strictly for myself here - not claiming to speak for all drummers or anyone else - I wouldn't play drums on RS if they had the option. I would be interested to see a few beats and fills put into the RSNH sort of notation, but that's about it. There's no way I'd drag my e-kit into the living room to plug it into the XBox on any sort of regular basis and no way I'm moving my XBox into the drum/music room. That's just me. I'm not saying that I hope Ubi does or doesn't do it. I'm just saying that I probably wouldn't use RS for drums due to physical/logistical inconvenience.
Another issue would be (and I'm speaking from complete ignorance of how RockBand/GuitarHero work) how would you fit drums, guitar and bass all onto one screen for multiplayer? My son and I can do multiplayer on RS now just fine. I really don't see how they'd fit a third instrument of any kind on the display.

I don think that bringing drums or keys to RS will happen ever. I think the have a good thing going for themselves right now, and concentrating on just guitar and bass seem logical to me. There is still so much more that needs to be taught in RS to begin to scratch the surface on guitar playing. Not to mention when Bass comes out, even though its very similiar to the guitar the techniques as well as tunings are going to be much different than the guitar.
I am not saying that drums would not be a cool thing because i love playing the drums on my rockband and guitar hero games. Perhaps a separate game would be something that could be logical in the future, but as mentioned the cost associated with a decent set of drums is going to be a lot higher than that of a cheap guitar. I mean I would rather learn on a good professional (e) or regular drum kit than just 5- 6 toy drum pads and a cheap plastic pedal.
I'd be cool with adding keyboards and drums. Digital drums are kind of expensive, though. You'd hate to see people run out and buy a $500 kit only to find that the notes don't always register with the low-end kits. I can't imagine miking an acoustic drum set for the game. It would also be nice to see formal drum tablature and standard music notation scroll by for the new instruments.
Axe me no questions, I'll tele you no lies.
i think keyboard would be easier to bring in than drums all instruments would be awesome but drums would be very difficult and expensive to add even if they went with mics for acoustic drums or possibly i frequency clip for each drum and cymbal that would still be very costly and of course the worst would be if they went only electronic drum....but yes in time i would love to see rocksmith give everyone the chance to learn whatever instrument they want with thier awesome software
You're right. I figure drums will probably be expensive however way it happens.
Rock Band has a controller for plugging in midi instruments including electronic drums. If Rocksmith recognizes the controller, Rocksmith just bears the cost of coding for the controller and adding drum content to all of the tracks. So, most of the costs are borne by the players who want to go that route. And hopefully Rock Band keeps their midi controller in production.![]()
Weirdly, Rock Band isn't adding new parts to existing tracks which makes me wonder if there's an extra licensing issue if they want to add pro guitar parts to their older tracks.

I am not sure what Rocksmith would add to the drum experience. How would the Rocksmith version be any different from the Rockband version. If it doesn't add anything then it will never be as good as Rockband because Rockband already has over 1000 DLC for drums. I also don't want Rocksmith to change into a band game. Currently the UI is focused towards single player. I don't want them changing things so 4 instruments an show up at once.
what they could add is a way to play acoustic drums, rockband isnt doing that...also just because you dont want this to be a band game doesnt mean it wont happen there is already multiplayer and bass support is coming

Yeah, and micing acoustic drums would get expensive in a hurry. Drums really are an expensive instrument to play.
I heard they's a man there pays folks money to sing into a can.

I'd have to say I'm probably more of a drummer than a guitar player if I'm being honest with myself. I love the guitar, but I loved the drums first and I still pay attention to the drums more than the guitar most of the time. I just don't have any space to call my own where I can be loud enough to do the drums properly, so I've settled for guitar.
