Week 20 Challenge "I GOT MINE" Combo by The Black Keys

This week's challenge song is "I GOT MINE" (Combo) by The Black Keys.

    1) A song and particular arrangement will be posted before Tuesday every week.

    2) There are four competitive categories. To foster a fair, fun, and competitive environment, players should self-select into the category that best describes their ability. This categorization should remain stable from week to week, unless a player determines that they have initially self-selected into the wrong division.

Division I: Can level most songs to 100%, and can play most songs proficiently - 95+% accuracy. Can master songs like Mean B!tch, Chimney, Good Enough etc.
Division II: Can level several songs to 100%, may have trouble accurately playing them at that level. General accuracy 85-95%.
Division III: May level some easier songs to 100, but others will be partially leveled. Regularly scores 70-95k. Can level songs like Song 2 single note, Go With The Flow combo, Angela, or chord arrangements to 100%.
Division IV: New to guitar. No songs really leveled to 100%.

There will also be "honorable mentions" for note streak, accuracy, and master mode entries.

    3) Each participant is allowed to make a single entry in the division they have selected. All submissions for the main divisions should be in standard rehearsal or performance mode, even for songs that are mastered. Master Mode entries will not count towards the competition scoring.

    4) Entries must be made by replying to the song thread with your score and difficulty in the title (this way we won't have to sift through post content). For example: 124,033 (Division I).

    5) Please only submit one score per song. If you play the song later in the week and do better, go to your original post and edit with the replacement score and pic.

    6) To be entered in the competition you must submit a picture of the song results replay screen (showing score, percentage, and note streak)

    7) All entries must be in before Monday, so by 11:59 Sunday night (based on EST Time Zone or UTC-5 internationally)

    8) A separate thread showing the winners of each difficulty category will be posted by the previous week's winner, and the selection of the following week's song will be the responsibility of one of these winners.

    9) We will rotate the responsibility of selecting the next song and arrangement each week starting with Division IV, III, II, then I. Rinse and repeat.

    10) In the event that the winner does not respond to a PM notification to start a new thread by Tuesday, the winner of the next category in the rotation will be notified to select an arrangement and start a thread.

11)The winner/song selector must PM Black_Widow9, Mr_Shade, T_O_A_D after creating the new Challenge thread with the winners and New Song Challenge link as shown below.

The winner of Division II will select the song for next week's challenge.

    108,339- Div III MM 203,685

I put a little thought into this selection. I know RS has introduced many of us to some new music, with The Black Keys being right there at the top for me. I wanted to choose an on-disc song to encourage max participation and of course I wanted to choose a song that has some challenging aspects to it for the majority of challengers. I browsed all of their songs in Riff Repeater at 100% phrase notes to find the best choice, and after a few minutes the choice was clear: "I GOT MINE"!

Personally I haven't done much work on this song, as I'd been playing their easier arrangements (Mind Eraser, Next Girl, GOTC) because I really like to listen to those songs and it's a nice ego boost once in awhile to get high scores on them. But now it's time for more of a challenge, (I think this may be their most difficult arrangement in RS) as this arrangement has the dreaded barre chords, a tricky little chorus full of chords, open notes and bends, and a couple solos. The first solo seems pretty simple, but the second solo looks a little more challenging if played correctly with some pull-offs and hammers. So, enjoy a little bit of everything with this week's song!

    __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _________________________________________

Monday: Checked RS Buddy, only have 1 full play through of this arrangement @ 42K. After an hour in RR now I'm up to 81K. Most parts are fully leveled except for the Chorus, that's around 60%, going to be a real challenge to level up this section as I'm still trying to build up muscle memory for the basic chord changes. At least I'm getting better at barre chords, but still I lose the shape slightly sometimes as I'm sliding down the fretboard at beginning and end of song.

Tuesday: Able to max level the Outro. The Chorus is the hardest section and I was able to level it up to 100% but not quite able to get the "Level Maxed" atta-boy banner, so it's still a work in progress. Decided to give it 1 full run and I scored 89K. Happy that I'm now playing with 100% phrase notes, but I'm still sloppy in every section of the song so I've got a lot of polishing up to do to try and reach 100K. UPDATE: After working outside in the yard for a few hours I gave it another go and improved my accuracy 5%, but still lots of sloppiness to clean up. My hands are pretty tired from playing and yard work, so I'll quit for tonight and get back at it tomorrow.

Wed: Spent an hour in RR practicing. Getting better but still need to focus on better/faster transitions from Verse to Chorus and Verse to Outro. Decided to give it a run and You've Got To Be Freakin' Kidding Me! I've got almost 98K with the Outro coming down the highway and I stumble across the finish line, late on the last couple chords...I look up at the score knowing I botched it but thinking surely I broke 100K...nope, 99,961. Urrrrrrgh! UPDATE: 2 runs, both over 100K, best 103,137. Still need to get better on the Chorus!!!!!!

Thurs: Played song several times with little improvement.
Fri: Had to work, didn't play at all...hands needed a break anyway.

Sat: Getting better in all areas. Improved on the barre chords this week, but still can't quite get my hands in position for the first barre chord of the Outro, so I'm always missing that chord. Score is up to 108,339.

Sat: Decided to give it a go in MM. 187K on my first run, totally messed-up the solos. 2nd attempt 203K @ 91% accuracy. I'm happy with this.

    Division III Placeholder.

I was gonna skip this week to get back to my event set but I'm just not that enthusiastic to dive into House of the Rising Sun after spending so much time with Sweet Home Alabama.

Ok, I just swapped out House of the Rising Sun for I Got Mine in my event.
Current Score: 79,977. Hoping to break 90k this week. I should have some more practice time tonight.
Current Score: 82K. didn't get any practice last night.
Current Score: 92,224 Made good progress.

Didn't get much better. only had a chance to run through it once this morning. Not as good as i'd like but a decent improvement from the 70ks

112,803 (Division II) (166,910 Master Mode)

Placeholder. This is one I have mastered already, but switching back to the barre chords at the end always caused a case of fumble finger so it took me awhile to break 100k on it even with the song fully levelled. I always seem to lose track of where I'm at playing it in Master mode, and never remember the solos, so I should be able to work on that some this week too.

Edit: I'm pretty happy with my initial entry of 110,562. I remember this one taking a long time for me to master. I had all of the sections levelled, but just couldn't break 100k. I was always hitting 98-99k and had a tough time pushing it over that 100k barrier. Prior to last night, my high run was 103k. My first run through, I got 108k, then a 109k, then when I got a 107k I moved on to working on some Queen songs for a bit. I came back to it one more time before putting the guitar up for the night and got a 110k.

Edit 2: I had 3 runs in the 111k range last night, the best being 111,632. I should probably start working on a master mode run the next few days.

Edit 3: I made a few master mode runs through and ended up with 166,910 for the best run. I'll have to work on that some more the next couple of days. I also managed to get a few more points out of the non-master mode with a 112,803 run. (And a better streak this time.)

This one is easy enough, that I may attempt it. I played around a little, and while Sweet Home was too much (even without the injury LOL), this song should be fine.
Sweet. It'd be great to have you back so soon! Yeah I know this one isn't much of a challenge for the upper division players, but with that being said there is a greater opportunity for MM runs this week. Also maybe this is a song the more advanced players can doing some creative tinkering with, by adding some of your own custom touches (extra slides & other notes) where they might sound good and then post videos of your creativity...just a thought.

BTW, prior to last week, the song I was thinking I would choose if I ever won the honor was Sweet Home Alabama. Having that picked already made me start thinking of what I would pick next. The first thing that came to mind was one of The Black Keys songs, either I Got Mine or Just Got To Be. Thanks to this weeks's selection, I now have to come up with another pick!

    121,110/232,269/ 99% 348 NS (Div 1)

Good Pick Steamroller. I particularly like how you explained your choice. My current best MM score on this is well under 200k so this will give me an incentive to work on cleaning it up. Haven't played it in a while. I'll try to get a video up tonight.
    Placeholder for score.
day 1: 113k, probably won't get to play this again until the weekend.
Final: spent a couple of hours on this today. Got score up to 121k and added MM score of 232k, longest streak on any run was 347, also had one 99% run

    And here is the video:

Agreed, I had never heard of The Black Keys, and thought "who the blank are these guys?" But it turns out I like them.

    Good pick! I'm definitely in.

I haven't played this song in quite some time. Gave it a quick play on a "break" from work and scored 33k (previous best was 23k).

    Edit: score update

    Edit 2: final score.
