    Assault

I am a recon, and let me just say if you want to fix the number of snipers in this game, you need to make some incentive to play with an SMG. I rush the point, I try to kill enemies up close, but why should I put up with the following:

As you can see from the bullet spread on my body, my killer was not even suffering from too much recoil because those bullets all landed in the same place!

And I have more, too. I can light a person up who is shooting my team, and all he has to do to kill me is adjust his aim slightly over to my general direction and I'm toast. A whining and rage quitting piece of freaking toast.
Earlier today I was playing on Markov station. I was up at the very front of C while my team was fighting to E. I threw a nice grenade at an assault, did over 120 damage, and then got insta killed. An assault goes through those clips soooo quickly too, so once they look at me I'm done. I can't get my final shots in while taking fire from an assault because my sight goes jumping like crazy.
Those pictures are in TITAN armor (the stuff that's tougher for rushing the point). I bought the MKIII armor, thinking I could take an extra bullet maybe, but it doesn't help, so that's a waste of RP. An assault character should not take more than three headshots (which they do, btw). Not only do they have a ton of health, but if they wear that shield on their back, I have an even greater chance of using up an entire clip without getting more than one kill when I flank. If a recon flanks the enemy team, everyone (even the assaults) should be doomed. When I flank, I get one to two kills and then I get three shotted if an assault notices me while I'm blasting away with my SMG.
To the people who are going to play the realism crap on me, I'm ready for you this time:
Some of you are probably ready to say "I live in Russia/South USA and I've fired the XX Mk y and it fires a zz.xxmm round that SHOULD insta kill you!"
Well that's wrong because an SMG should insta kill too IRL, ya dope. Nobody can take 3 headshots (from ANY gun) and still be alive. Plenty of things are left out of video games because they are less fun, like instant death from very few bullets. Play assault and you don't experience that, but as a recon it's like ARMA 2 (the military sim where if you get shot you're out of the fight).
Why don't I just play assault then? Because I was drawn to Ghost Recon Online because I wanted to be a ninja. If I need to be assault or specialist to take a reasonable number of bullets, I might as well go back to War Inc. Honestly, I do have many fun matches, but I have had way too many nice runs with my friends ruined by this getting three shotted. Any amount of tweaking to the assault damage, or recon armor, to fix this will give me more interest in this game. As you can see in the pics above, I'm getting shot for over thirty damage. That's a critical hit for me if I do 30+ damage to somebody. I really hope this can stay Ghost Recon Online and not Juggernaut suit Online.
Plenty of people are just going to yell at me for whining, all I ask is that you actually put relevant and smart things in here. Don't just say "RETAWD LMGS AND ASRS GOT NERFED", because that really doesn't help community discussion and one of the reasons why games have closed beta is so they can get suggestions. I only ***** and complain because I have ideas for making things better.
ps thank you frosty milkshake for humoring me when I started whining in game while still alive (still onscreen in the last image). I put a whole clip in him but he escaped, and I was just so mad and I'm pretty sure he stepped out and let me shoot him. You didn't need to do that for me man, but thanks anyway and I'm glad you didn't just say "cry me a river"
I have nothing against people who use guns that work well for them, there are plenty of people who think the OC is overpowered so if I ridicule people for using super dangerous guns I would just be acting like a jerk.
If anyone has any idea how this could be balanced at least a little bit, that's what I'm asking for here. Or your arguments as to why assaults should take and deal more damage than a recon who works hard to get behind enemy lines.

As a recon your best assest are surprise and ambush.

You can't take an assault 1v1 with out either of the two above unless he was really unlucky.

That is the way the game is designed. Take a stroll around the forums at all the other posts lots of people are calling for the SMG to be nerfed and I explain the exact same thing to them. Your the light class (lowest health and lowest hp) you can't take the frontal assault and expect to win, it's just not going to happen.

Instead switch tactics to more of a flanking role. If you run into those assaults and well guarded positions, use cloak to get around them or oracle to see where they are at and then come at them sideways or best of all just run away until you can get to a more advantagous position.

    Your greatest strength's are:
    SPEED
    ROF
    SURPISE
    CLOAK
    ORACLE

Trust me there are lots of Recon's out there who run the SMG that just leave you violated and bitter.

I know your frustrated, happens to me all the time. Find me in game sometime (Carrioncrow) we'll roll together and see if I can't help you through this slump.

heh it's funny you mention Frostymilkshake, he's a good guy but we seemed to be locked into this eternal grudge match when we end up on oppisite teams. Most ammusing.

Anyways I know how you feel, but trust me it gets better.

The biggest part of playing a SMG recon is learning the map and learning how to outflank your opponents. Here's an example of a carefully weathered SMG push.

I thought about this stuff last night, and I decided the main problem I'm having is after I flank. I can clear out an enemy position well enough, my problem is the getaway when the enemy respawn wave comes through I always get frustrated when I try to slide between pieces of cover and even if I make it I'm nearly dead because just a bullet or two hit me.
I understand I do have to be more tactical about how I attack. Trust me I have had some game changing flanks before, but sometimes I am also the idiot who charges an aegis without coming up with a plan. So yeah, I'll do more of this running away when I can't get in thing.
I still think one thing could make everybody happier though: if assault rifles got less recoil and less damage maybe? Just a little bit such that it would take maybe 4 shots to kill a recon, but they would shoot more accurately. I think assault players would go for less recoil, and I wouldn't feel ripped off when I'm shooting one in the head and he still gets me.
If I'm wrong and everyone likes the damage the way it is, that's okay and right now I'm about to go play some more with the word "careful" in my head. Although sometimes you have to admit it's fun to dive on the point when your team is getting wrecked and kill as many advancing enemies as you can with no plan of survival after like 7 kills
Thanks for reading fully and respecting my opinion, I was very scared people were just going to be losers and yell at me after seeing that I don't like the assault damage stuff.

Okay, I played this morning and I can now give you my basic complaint about the assault class (although I write a lot it's not a HUGE issue).
Their armor. Holy crap do they take a lot of bullets! Unless you get really close to one, I usually end up reloading after every 2 assaults I kill. They just tank so much damage, that's the real issue for me. If you get pinned down by assault, you're screwed. You can't get rid of them with a grenade, you can't get a speedy headshot, you're just stuck. I can't even give suppressing fire on the cover an assault guy is hiding behind, because he knows he can pop out and light me up and my bullets that were already flying will not hurt him (and no more will hit because I'll be instantly dead).
Maybe they could tweak it so that headshots take a percentage of a person's health, that way it does a proportional amount of damage. Right now I can get three headshots in and still be killed.

    Also depends on the grenades

Impact grenades won't kill an assault unless he is already hurt but the timed one's will, unless it's an HE and he is in the outterblast rather than right next to him

ok, first of all, I have to say, please try to use more paragraphs....your first post was too jumbled together...bad for the eyes...

As for the recon vs assault issue, I find that as others have said, surprise and flank are key...however you just have to be smart and cunning....the recon class is all about stealth, evasion and misdirection....all the things the class has at it's disposal caters to sneak attacks and flanking...so under no circumstance you should not really try to engage assault or specialist head on. Just try to avoid direct 1v1 when they see you coming, know your position....one of the good things about recon class that i found is that nobody can escape danger like we can....we have the speed advantage, so we can often outrun and dodge tough situations...I've escaped plenty of times when assault try to rush me...it doesn't always work but then again nothing is 100%.

One other thing I would like to add...if you watched the video compass posted, you can do what he did or you can try a safer option....if you notice he has 2 grenades....you can simply toss a grenade over there and then cloak and move in for the mop up. What this does is you may kill a couple (or all of them) with the grenade and those you don't kill, you'll damage and take less bullets to finish the job and thus not need to reload or switch to pistol. As an added bonus, even if the grenade doesn't land right, the explosion is ample opportunity to distract the enemy, make them go into cover and provide you with a distraction to mask the sound of cloak turning on. At the distance he was from the enemy, you can hear the cloak engage if your paying attention...those guys were just not watching the flank...FYI, it's the job of the guy on the end (1st guy killed) to watch the left flank...

So overall, you aren't supposed to engage enemies head on with recon...they have all the advantages....higher damage per bullet (assault and specialist can do about 35 - 40 damage per bullet), higher armor (easy for assault to get 31%, more mitigation if you stack toughness inserts) and they also get weapons that fire just as fast as smg's but more accurate at all ranges.

Recon has plenty at it's disposal to either avoid or sneak attack stronger opponents....however, the problem is difficult for recon (effectively shutting them completely down) if the other team has spam happy oracle users on the other team....at which point, you probably just need to stick with your teammates and support the assault and specialist....let the meat shields go in first, that's what they are built for.
