    The Weapons Locker

Time to talk about my favorite subject: Guns

Now there are lots of tips and tricks to getting your guns to perform the way it should, most of these changes really tailor the gun towards your play style. However there are a few "Stock" guns out there that are just horrible. The setups are really kind of counterproductive.

There are a few of these out there that really grind my gears, but for today let’s just talk about two.

    First up: The PENTAGUN (Shotgun)
Now the pentagun has gone through some dramatic changes in these last few patches and has now been brought back into a more balanced perspective with all the other shotguns. The hands down biggest weakness of this gun is it's optical sight. It's horrible for a shotgun, blocks most of your view has a tiny red-dot and is entirely unnecessary. So rather than saving up money for a optical sight for a gun that you may or may not like, lets go ahead and just take the sight off and use good old fashion Iron Sights

Here is what you do: In your basic equipment screen click on your Pentagun and then click on the option called 'Upgrades" From there click on the optical sight the 1x Reflex small and another window should pop open. Now if you notice in the upper right hand corner next to your 1x Reflex Sight you have an "X" there. Click that.

    Viola

Click Confirm and the Optical Sight is no more. Now you are left with some pretty amazing optical sights that give you the field of view you want and still remain precise for those mid-range hail mary's.

Next Up: The VSS (Assault Rifle)
Besides the Snazzy wood finish on the stock and it's long barrel the VSS has a pretty big oversight. The VSS has an exceptionally nice 4x Optical Scope on it, but the gun itself shoots at 900 RPM (Rounds Per minute) which make controlling this gun while aiming down the sights EXTREMELY difficult. Now the 4x PSO-1 Scope is very decent and so long as you switch to semi-auto (In game key "X") you can turn this bucket of fun into quite the auto-sniper.

Now to fix this gun it requires a lot more moxy. We could just remove the Optical Sight like we did with the Pentagun but the Iron Sights on the VSS (And all the VS-VAl's) are horrible. But at least you can aim down the sights with it at Short-Mid range and still see what you are shooting at. So unless you plan on purchasing a 1x Reflex Open sight (2025 RP) to put o this gun then the best advice I have for you regarding it is: Avoid it

You are far better off with the VS-VAl and the VAL CQC models. Though they don't have the long barrel and fancy scope what they do have is the option (or build in option) to have a Front Grip helping you control recoil and gives you better handling for running and gunning. I love to the depths of my hear the VS-VAL and if you treat her nice she is one of the nicest guns you will ever use with some phenomenal up-close and personal kill-power.

Well that concludes today's Weapons locker. If you have tips to make your gun perform better in GRO feel free to post it up!

The M27 is a good gun. My lvl20 assault is still using the M27 GI. First upgrade you are going to want is the Extended mags hands down.

This dosn't increase your ammo pool (Total ammo) but it wil give you those extra few rounds to finish the job.

Now if you like some real upclose and personal firepower the M27-C (with the capped stock) has some amazing firepower at 900 ROF which makes it devistating to enemy players. It is just not very accurate at med or long range.

The M27 D10 is the long barrel gun and probably one of the most under used guns out there, but it packs a punch.

The real advantage of sticking with the M27 up at higher levels like myself is by the time you get up to those high levels you have leveled up your gun to have a monster "Crit Chance" which means it hits harder and takes less ammo to put someone down.

I like running Iron sights on all my M27's just because I like them so much that a red-dot or scope dosn't do much for me, but if you find yourself wanting more long-range percision then definatly go for one of the Red-dot sights.

You might feel tempted to just grab one of these guns right out the bat, but honestly it would be worth your while to save up till your lvl10 and get the MK16. The MK16 puts most other assault rifles to shame. (oh how i hate thee mK16) I get killed by the Mk16 moreso than any other assault rifle. Thousands of deaths can't be wrong.

Today's Subject is the the much maligned MP5

Now most recon's that plan on taking the fight to the enemy will touch this gun on their way to other weapons. I on the other hand am lvl29 and still using my MP5K because it has some unique featues that do not excist in any other SMG's.

Despite the MP5's low damage the MP5k has one of the highest ROF's which offsets the low damage by throwing out tons of rounds. The other MP5's trade lower ROF for lower recoil making them easier to control at Medium ranges. But personaly for me the MP5k is where the money is at, medium ranges is not where most Aggressive Recon's want to find themselfs, they prefer the upclose and personal, and upclose ROF wins battles more times than not. I also highly recommend getting a muzzle break, it's supprising how much of a difference it makes.

Now the two unique features of the MP5 is the fact that it has a Burst Fire mode and you are the only SMG to have the option to use "Double Magazines" The burst fire mode is really good for Medium to Long range shots and due to the three round burst you can put all 3 shots into the target unlike full auto which makes the gun harder to control at longer ranges. So if you are behind your enemy say slinking around in a sniper tower and you want to lay down some accurate fire with out wasting shots, switch over to burst mode and make those shots count.

Next up and probably the main reason I am still packing the MP5k is the "Double Magazine" feature, now despite other games making the Double Magazine offer perks like quicker reloading time on every other reload or other such shtuff the Double Magazines for MP5 gives you double your starting ammo pool.

So instead of starting out with 160 rounds, you start every match with 240 rounds. For me that is huge as the only thing that eats ammo faster is my M249 Para. The great thing about the Double Magazines is not being 1/2 way through a intense firefight and running out of ammo, or pushing an excellent killstreak rolling aggressively and having to constantly hunt for ammo from dead bodies like some sort of scavenger bird.

So depsite the MP5 being the frist SMG that Recon's get it value it as one of the best SMG's that Recon's get.

Alright people, stay frosty out there and remember: communication is key.

I should clarify or challenge you on your M27-C statement. From my experience with the M27-C the gun is actually fairly "devastating" at all ranges. I leveled mine up to 10 and could surely pwned people with inserts and what not up close - where the gun truly shines. And then by switching it to semi, I could tackle dudes further out with great accuracy and lethality. So in essence with the right training and handling the M27-C can be used at close, medium, or long ranges. I rolled mine with a 1x or 1.5 x scope with extended mags and a silencer.

As a side not, having the M27-C on semi and running around spamming the trigger as if it was an M14 EBR is also fairly lethal believe it or not.

I guess I should clarify what i meant is that it's hard to keep on target with that 900 ROF, using the Semi-Auto of course would indeed do the trick.

What I've found is that due to the relative low end of the damage for the M27 is that I would only get one-two hits in before my target jumped back into cover. The plinking from long range rarely played out in my favor and just alerted the guy that I was there. Instead I just en devour to get closer these days where I can deal a more sustained and ultimately fatal burst.

Sort of a "Why use the squirt gun at range when you can get close and let him have the fire-hose" philosophy.

Good deal. Come open beta i'll have to swing a 1.5x on mine. I never thought to put anything other than a Reflex on it.
