Thread: E3 Demo: Stealth Possible? | Forums

  1. #11
"One of the things Ubi is promising is a stealthrough of the E3 demo. One thing some fans believe is that it's not possible to sneak through the area just before the frogleap cliff climb. Look at the demo again."

They showed another video where Sam took a different route and avoided killing anyone. Instead of breaching the door, he climbed up some pipes to get to the roof of a building and rappelled down to a window.

The video is on YouTube- Splinter Cell Blacklist | Community Developer Interview with Maxime Beland

Yeah and he didn't avoid killing people. He still did killing in motion, had the firefight with the truck turret and soldiers and then CRASHED THROUGH A WINDOW before executing Jadid's men. Soooo...what about that video was more stealth than ordinary except for the rappel which ended in a not-so-stealthy finish?

I totally want to see a non-lethal takedown animation that beland promised!

As do I -- I do have a question...at the start of a mission they said you can equip the knife or not....

I just though of something...does that prevent you from cutting through the tent at the beginning...? If so, the whole equip the knife thing is really unfair. I should always have access to the knife and can deem when to use it to cut the fabric or when to use it to kill someone. Not that the game kills everyone when I melee them just because I have the knife equipped. It seems so video gamey "loadout" to me which is exactly what it is but in CT it was always there no matter what loadout I chose. If I deem an enemy to be an a-hole I wanna kill, I should be able to quietly stab him, but then LTL someone else because they're whatever. Likewise, I should have access to most of the routes (i.e. the tent) even if I want to not kill anyone. Sigh. Maybe you can still cut the tent no matter what but you just wont be able to use the knife for melee if you didnt equip it? That seems dumb...I just wish they'd go back to LT/RT system even if it's like X for lethal, B for LTL.

I think what he means by equiping the knife, he means selecting it. So you can still have the knife in the mission, but if you dont have it selected as a weapon or item, he wont use it to kill the guy, he'll just perfrom a non-lethal takedown. So its like conviction where if you hold down on the d-pad, archer, kestrel, or sam puts his pistol or gun away so you can perform non lethal kills.

Oh...if that's the case -- if it is -- that's a bit more tactical than CT where all you did was pull a trigger near an enemy and he used it...although I don't see him pushing down on the D-Pad in order to reach for the knife or use it ever...that'd actually be a really cool idea though

Well thats speculation based on what he said. Im not going to say youre wrong, because you might not be. Who knows? Maybe Im wrong, but it would seem logical to assume thats how it would work?

At twitter Beland said you can unequip and equip the knife on the fly and totally in real time.

Well it'd also be logical NOT to use unsilenced weapons but.... trololol

no but seriously, I took it to mean that before a mission you can select a pistol and rifle and choose to have the knife or not and that'd determine if you KOd/killed someone with a melee -- so I was confused how the tent-cutting would work. *shrug* maybe we'll get confirmation on that soon?
