Settlers on XP mode
G'day.
I'm having trouble trying to run Settlers 3 on Windows 7 via windows Virtual PC running XP Mode.
I had initially tried installing directly on Win 7 but the install just seemed to stop, with no error, after I clicked the install button. Running various combinations of Compatibility modes didn't seem to help. A net search brought up this post:
http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php...s-QOTA-aLobby)
But that spoke of actions to perform after I had installed the game, so not much help there.
I though I could install Windows Virtual PC running XP mode and try my luck there. It installed, albeit it asked if I wanted to instal an Intel Codec, I said yes. It displayed an error saying it couldn't find the intel video file.
The game seemed to install succesfully in XP mode but wouldn't run, I would get this error:
DirectDraw Error DDERR_UNSUPPORTED occured at CDirectDraw:
DSetDisplayMode
I tried the s3.exe from the link above with no success and again tried various combinations of compatibility modes with no luck ( and ran the FileConvert.exe)
Does this sound familar to anyone and / or have any ideas to help get this running ?
Cheers.

Hello JacomKyle
The Direct Draw error that you are getting is referring to the video card that you have. Unfortunately because of the age of the game the new hardware that is available now is untested and not supported. Many compatibility issues may happen.

Hi pennygod.
Thanks for getting back to me
Don't suppose you or anyone has heard of wrappers (of a sort) for drivers to let older games think there is older graphics cards there?
Ie: a virtual graphics card?
As if it's only the graphics card, would be great to find out if there are options around that issue.
Cheers.
