    Graphics cards reccomendations for COD

    Hey all,

Just built a new compy and need to upgrade mt vid card. COD runs pretty poorly with all the bells and whistles(which i absolutely have to have)
I currently have an ATI Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256bit <---- Still plays most games on max!

    Rest of system:
    AMD Phenom II x4 980 3.7
    8GB 1866 RAM
    128GB Crucial M4 SSD(plus other storage.)

I pretty much built this comp for gaming, and IL2 specifically.

Any recommendations for something in the 200-300$$ range?

    From http://ubisoft-en.custhelp.com/app/a...Mm8yXzduSms%3D
IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover system requirements

    OPERATING SYSTEM: Windows® 7 / Vista SP2 / Windows XP SP3
    PROCESSOR: Pentium® Dual-Core 2.0GHz or Athlon™ X2 3800+
(Intel Core i5 2.66GHz or AMD Phenom II X4 2.6GHz recommended)
    RAM: 2GB (4GB recommended)
    VIDEO CARDirectX® 9.0c compliant, 512Mb Video Card (1GB DirectX® 10 recommended) - See supported List*
    DIRECT X®: DirectX® 9.0c or DirectX® 10 (included on disc)
    DVD-ROM DRIVE: 8X
    SOUND CARD: DirectX 9.0c compatible
    HARD DISK: 10GB
PERIPHERALS: Mouse, keyboard (joystick with throttle and rudder control recommended)
MULTIPLAY: Broadband connection with 128 kbps upstream or faster

*SUPPORTED VIDEO CARDS AT TIME OF RELEASE:

    ATI® 4850/4870/5830/5850/5770/5870/6870/6950/6970
    NVidia®: 8800/9800/250/260/275/285/460/465/470/480
I would suggest something in the nVidia 560+ or 660+ range, or ATI equivalent. I'm running a GTX460 and it does the job with acceptable FPS but doesn't shine.

Something with 2 GB VRAM, maybe 3 if you can go that far. I'm enjoying my HD6950

Definitly looking at 2GB at 256bit. I just built this beast of a comp. And really want to get into flightsimming. Ive just dabbled so far. My current vid card plays IL21946 like a dream. And im sure I wont be dropping that game anytime soon. But I do need to upgrade to something that will last the next 2-3 years.

    Thx for the recommendation.

From what I could see, my GPU isn't even among those officially supported - specs in my sig.
    Mobo: GA-P35-S3
    CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 2.66Ghz
    GPU: AMD Radeon HD6850 1gb
    RAM: Corsair 4gb DDR2
    O/S: Windows 7 64bit Home Premium

You are correct. The lower numbers in each series for both nVidia and ATI are not truly hardcore cards and may not run the main graphics engine of CoD at all. I know that some with an nVidia 450 have not been able to run the game.

Well, Nubarus. You certainly seem to have money to throw at this! I can only do about half of that cost on the vid card.

    I am down to a Sapphire HD 7850 2GB 256bit: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102984

I have a sapphire now and like it. Any thoughts? Or reasons as not to grab this one?

Took me about 1 year to save up for this though. This game was a gift and my mates where struggeling with this game to run smoothly. Since their systems where about twice as fast as my old one I figured I wasn't even going to try and started saving up instead.
Lucky for me some tech got better like the SSD and the new Ivy processors and prices dropped like the memory.
With the graphics card I figured I wasn't going to cut any corners and got the best single GPU card available at this time.
So in the end I got a good system to play this game for less money then me mates who where upgrading bits and pieces over the year.
I even dare to say mine is faster then theirs now. It's kinda funny since them lot where mocking me a little for not being able to play Cliffs of dover.
