Thread: All settings turned up to HIGH | Forums

  1. #1
Yep guys I know what you're talking about - I bought a GeForce FX5950Ultra card about 2 weeks ago in preparation for FarCry, UT2004 and Half Life 2 but when I run the FarCry demo I only average about 30-39 frames per second depending on how much action is going on. I am pretty disappointed seeing as I cannot turn up all the graphic options to very high. The texture lighting always stays on medium - even if I change it and restart the game - also there is another graphics settings that stays at custom instead of very high.

    My PC spec is :
    AMD Athlon XP 2400 (2Ghz)
    Asus A7n8x Deluxe mobo
    !GB PC2700 RAM
    GeForce FX5950Ultra card
120gb 7200rpm IDE fully defragged HDD +8mb cache

What the point in having a fairly high spec PC like mine I if can't turn up all the graphics detail.

Well ubisoft I do like your game - very much, the demo is a bit buggy, especially the sound and the way the AI enemies can just stop in front of you but wont shoot you or the way they keep ducking then standing up over and over again without even attempting to fire or move position as if their stuck in a loop, but hopefully those bugs will be ironed out after the game launch but if your history has anything to go by, especially those old Amiga 500/1200 games you use to make have anything to go by, then I'd rather wait for half life 2 and unreal 2004, sorry UBI but thats just how I feel, i've been playing games now for 22 years and never seen a game with as much jaw dropping graphics as farcry's demo.

As for the music/ sound FX well its so good it has me on the edge of my seat when I'm playing, when I am sneaking around in the bushes and you kick of that sound FX that makes me feel like I am being sneaky - thats just great - lol

    Hey UBI !!!
Please please please sort out the FPS why shouldn't I be able to play FarCry the way your game director intended with all the settings up high on my pc

I don't know if I am going to buy this game, I may wait and if I here that the multi player aspects are good then I'll give UBI some of my cash otherwise I'll wait for decent FPS's like HL2 and UT2004.

Is there anybody else out there thats has similar spec to my PC and is getting better or worse frame rates.

    I hear you man.
I have an AMD FX-51, GF5950, 1 gig Ram and I am getting about the same frame rate you are. I too have the problem with not being able to keep the graphics settings set to very. The game isn't finished yet so I hope they iron out the framerate issue.

The item on 'Custom' is probably Lighting, because this game uses loads of DX9 lighting and the card you bought isn't a fully compatiable DX9 card.

Nope, it just means that you have changed a setting through the console to something that doesn't comply with the low-medium-high-very high settings you get in the menu. For example putting r_glare = 0 would make the lighting setting say Custom in the menus.

And if you're getting 30-39 fps on this unoptimized demo you are doing just fine IMO. In my opinion that's enough for smooth gameplay.
