Is a server down? I get "Ubisoft services are unavaliable at the moment." when I try to start the launcher.

It's frustrating as a return customer (I've purchased every iteration and expansion of this series), to have to depend on UPlay to play a game. I understand having to log in to activate the product but really, why do I have to waste my time asking you guys to let me waste my time playing a game that I payed opening day retail for? Thanks for making a great game needlessly frustrating and currently unplayable because your stupid big brother protocol won't let me even save a freaking game. Bravo. NOW MAKE WITH THE PRODUCT YOU'VE BEEN PAID FOR AND LET US RUN THE FULL VERSION IN OFFLINE MODE, JERKS! Meanwhile I'll keep trying to log into your server till I give up and turn on my PS3.
