Myst 10th Anniversary DVD and Windows 7 | Forums

I run Windows 7 and Quicktime 7. 7.2. The game installs properly. When I run the game without changing any settings, the opening Ubisoft, Cyan, and game intro videos run, and then lead to a black screen with sound. Changing the compatibility settings leads to no opening videos and a black screen with sound. Changing the compatibility settings and rolling back to Quicktime 6.0 continues having no videos or animations, but the game does load and I can interact with the world. I've tried following the solution steps provided by Heimdall_G in this post, but those provided no help. How can I play this game as it's intended to be played?

EDIT: It appears that, with no changes, the game is playing only videos and sound, with no pictures. I am able to guess where the book is after the video, click on the black screen where it should be, open it (with further guess clicking), and watch the Myst Island intro video without a book surrounding it. When I click the video, I am again taken to a black screen with sound.

Our current (and probably final) status...

On the HP Pavilion DV-6 laptop computer running Windows 7:

Playing Myst Masterpiece Edition (10th Anniversary DVD): Works ONLY when QuickTime version 4.1.2 is installed, and "Disable Visual Themes" is checked.

Playing Riven (10th Anniversary DVD): Works ONLY when QuickTime version 4.1.2 is installed, and "Disable Visual Themes" is checked.


By "works" I mean that all the videos and audio work AND the Save and Save As functions also work; no glitches. We tried a mind-boggling number of other combinations without much luck.

Downgrading to Quicktime 4.1.2 and running with "Disable Visual Themes" only removed all video and stills. I still had functional sound, and I still couldn't see anything. Thanks for the effort, though.

I did. Every time I changed QT versions, I made certain to completely remove whichever version was most recently installed.

Sorry our fix didn't work for you. Apparently the difference in hardware makes our fix unique to the HP Pavilion but don't know why. If you solve your incompatibility problem, please let us know how you did it!

1) I don't actually know. Is there an easy utility I can use to find out? I don't have any documentation and the things I've googled aren't helpful.
EDIT: I'm a moron! The sticker on the bottom says I have a satellite L675D-S7049

2) I can't interact with Quicktime 4.1.2, to change any settings. It throws an error "QuickTime failed to initialize. Error # -2095. Please make sure QuickTime is properly installed on this computer." On versions I can interact with (which is only 6.x and up), I make certain to change the settings
