After been reading the last few days of campaign stuff, i thought we could use a small brake from all that. First i suck at manuel torp firering, in a real sub a would be the guy asisting the guy who are cleaning the plates

I have played a bunch of the sub sims, but i will use the SHII as reference to my choice of a sub. First the XXI is not even fun, you go full speed and they hit you 5% of the times if they are lucky and you will have these 70.000 ton missions. I like to work for it and my favorite is not an "American fahrer" like the IXD2 but the VII/C41 its not a "heawy weapon" but if used correctly its working fine and gives some stress in monitoring the C02 and bat levels if you play late war, and with a "fresh hull" you can stress it alitle more than the VIIC(strengthend hull on C41)but do have a lack of torps not that many to play around with, and that makes it even worse to get the message "dud torpedo)

so what sub model do you guys prefere??? and why??

I like the primitive stuff. I like going out in the North Sea with a Type II, or playing SHI in the Philippines in December '41 with an S-boat or out of Pearl in a big, slow Narwhal class.

Probably why my table-top gaming is oriented towards WWI, or even American Civil War.

Come to think of it, I much prefer watching tapes or playing race games from the 1930s-1960s as well.

I like the "hi tech" XXI very much. I'd also like to see it with all the stuff it had in SH3. SH2 did a bad job here, and in Aces you couln'd get a proper firing solution with the sonar.
Other than that I like everything with a deck gun . Nothing else can be as thrilling as driving surfaced in an escorted convoy at night or in the fog, attacking all those ships with the gun. It's impressive how well that worked in Aces, just because you could fool the escorts by just hiding below the convoy which didn't work in SH2 at all. Although the Type IX has a higher range and more bang, I prefer the more manoeuverable Type VII boats. In Aces I really knew if I had a VII or a IX depending on how easily I could dodge depth charges. It was harder with the IX. I'd say the VII is my fave then, followed closely by the IX and the XXI.

I play so good like only with the VIIC.

When i get it in CAOD then i will never choose it! ( ok when i start a late campage then i choose a XXI but only then .

Have you played Civil War General II?

I like the VIIC. I wish 1 torpedo didn't sink every merch in SH2. I have a torpedo allocation chart i put together that gives me pretty realistic results.

i hope big waves are modeled well in sh3.

back when I first played Silent Service, and having already been Dungeon Mastering in Dungeons&Dragons for a few years, I noticed the missions were set up just like a D&D Adventure run only with the Random Encounter Tabels in the DM Guide and Monster Manuals.

Now I know someone on the devteam has played Dungeons&Dragons before!!!!!

Also, Avalon Hill made a tabletop game called Patton's Best. You were a Sherman Tank, and as you fought your way across Europe, you rolled on the appropriate random encounter table to determine who you enemy and who your allies would be. there were a lot of different vehicles on these tables, so the game was really different every time you played it.

No, my Civil War gaming is limited to a set of home-grown figures rules developed by a friend of mine, and my own naval rules for miniatures that I started working on after I got tired of Ironclads.
