-- Myst IV: Revelation contains technology intended to prevent copying that may conflict with some DVD burners, as well as with virtual drives installed by software like Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120%, Easy CD/DVD Creator, Nero Burning ROM, etc.
-- Your DVD drive must be capable of reading commercially-produced, dual-layer/double-layer DVD's in order to install and play Revelation.


In all cases, the following are strongly recommended:

1. Download and install the latest firmware update for your DVD drive - especially if you have a DVD burner. Make certain that you know your drive's exact model number, and follow the firmware installation instructions *very* carefully. A firmware update should be available from:
-- a.Your PC or drive manufacturer's website.
-- b. CDRinfo's firmware page. (Select drive type > manufacturer > model to find your firmware.)
-- c. The Firmware Page.

2. Download and install the proper driver for your video chipset and Revelation as detailed in Myst IV: Installing Video Drivers With Win XP.

3. Download and install the latest driver for your sound chipset. Make certain that you know the exact model number of your sound card or chipset, so that you download the correct driver. The latest driver should be available from your PC, motherboard, or sound card manufacturer's website, or:
-- a. For Creative Sound Blaster products, start here.
-- b. For Turtle Beach products (Voyetra, etc.), start here.
-- c. For SiS chipsets (if you can't find the updated driver on your PC or motherboard manufacturer's website), start here.
-- d. For AC'97, SoundMAX, and other sound chipsets integrated on your motherboard, go to the motherboard or PC manufacturer's website for driver updates.

4. Install Revelation from a clean boot as detailed in Myst IV: Clean Boot Install/Re-install With Win XP.


Myst IV: Revelation demo

If in doubt as to whether your machine can run Revelation, try downloading and playing the Myst IV: Revelation demo. This will tell you if your machine can NOT run Myst IV, but it may not prove that your machine CAN run Myst IV. Here are some links to mirrors for downloading the demo.

POSTING GUIDELINES

Please note that all postings must follow the MystWorlds Forum Guidelines.

1. Search before you post. For a technical problem, first try Ubisoft's Support Pages, then look through the featured topics at the top of this Forum's main page.

If you don't find anything in either place, search this Forum using as few key words as possible:
-- a. Click on the Find tab at the top of the page. The Search current forum only box should be checked.
-- b. Type in your key word(s) in the Keyword Search box.
-- c. Click on GO to find topics containing one or more of your key words.
-- d. Open a topic in the Search Results list by clicking on the topic's link.
-- e. If that topic doesn't help, use your browser's Back arrow to go back to the Search Results list and try again.

If you get a "Your query matched too many posts." error, try fewer key words and/or different key words. Think a bit about other words that might be used to describe your problem.

2. Be polite to everyone. In particular, our Moderators are all unpaid volunteers and do not appreciate verbal abuse. Of course, you're more than welcome to contact (with a Private Message) any Community Manager or Moderator if you have a complaint about another person.

3. Be patient. The folks here may not know the correct answer the first time around. Additionally, our Moderators might not be available immediately to provide you with an answer.

4. Be descriptive. If your problem is already being discussed and none of the mentioned fixes work for you, carefully describe your problem in the existing thread. If you have a new problem, start a new topic with a descriptive title and carefully describe your problem. In both cases pay careful attention to the following:
-- a. Be as descriptive as possible when explaining your issues. Explain step by step what you've done that results in your problem. Explain where in the game your problem occurs. Explain any fixes you may have tried for your problem.
-- b. Post your system's technical specifications if you think you have a hardware problem. A DxDiag report as described below under To post a DxDiag report is really helpful!
-- c. Be sure to answer all follow-up questions and indicate whether or not a suggested fix did or did not work. And if the fix caused more problems, what were those problems?.
-- d. Remember that blanket accusations, screaming/flaming, and unkind words will probably result in your not being helped.

If you have a hardware problem, posting a DxDiag report for your system will really help the folks here to assist you. It's hard to make recommendations if we don't know what your system looks like.

To post a DxDiag report

If you have already started a topic (aka "Discussion") about your problem, please DO NOT start a new topic for your DxDiag report. Instead, post the report in your existing topic!

1. Press keys (win) + R, or click on Start > Run.
2. Type dxdiag in the box.
3. Click OK.
4. Let the blue bar in the lower left corner of the Dxdiag window finish crawling and disappear.
5. Run all of the tests you can on the Display, Sound and Music tabs. Do not neglect to do this step!
-- a. On the Display tab, click on the Test DirectDraw and Test Direct3D boxes, and follow the resulting instructions.
-- b. On all of the Sound tabs, click on the Test DirectSound box, and follow the resulting instructions.
-- c. On the Music tab, click on Test DirectMusic box, and follow the resulting instructions.
6. Click on the Save All Information button.
7. Close the DxDiag utility.
8. Now you have a DxDiag.txt file on your Desktop, or in the location where you have saved it.
Copy *ALL* of the contents of this file to the Windows Clipboard:
-- a. Double-click on the file to open it.
-- b. Right-click anywhere in the text, then click on Select All in the resulting menu.
-- c. Right-click on the highlighted text, then click on Copy in the resulting menu.
9. Paste the contents of the file from the Clipboard into a new post in your existing topic (or start a new topic, if necessary):
-- a. With the mouse cursor at the upper left corner of the Quick Reply to: box (or the Message: box for a new topic), type in an explanation of your problem.
-- b. Position the mouse cursor at the left margin and two lines down (press Enter to insert a line) from your explanation, then right-click.
-- c. Click on Paste in the resulting menu.
-- d. Click on Post Now.

If the manufacturer and exact model number of your PC aren't shown under 'System Information' (System Manufacturer and System Model) at the top of the report, also include that information in your post. Or, if you built your system or it was put together locally for you, include the manufacturer and exact model number of your motherboard.
