Thread: Splinter Cell Blacklist No Michael Ironside Petition Forum | Forums

I agree whole heartily, been playing the series since the beginning. It's not Sam Fisher without him being voiced by Ironside.

I don't usually base my decision on buying a game based on such a thing but with his voice being different it's not Sam, I would of actually not bought the last Assassin's creed if I had know they had gone with a different voice actor for Altair.

I also agree with the changing of the name of the character if it must be voiced by Eric Johnson.

    So in short.

Ubi are ruining the IPs that got them this far. Removing Ironside is THE worst decision I think they've ever made he is synonymous with Fisher. I hated Conviction with all my heart but I still played it mainly to see where they were going with this and I was devastated. Seriously Ubi get your crap together and make it right because so far the future doesn't look too good with so many people hating.

It's not a case of Ubisoft not wanting to cast Ironside, or that he could not perform as Sam with the facial motion capture stuff (he is a veteran actor after all), but because Ironside doesn't want to. He didn't want to do Conviction! Ironside, just like all of us here, realises that the Sam Fisher we knew and loved from the first 3, maybe 4 games and the Sam Fisher that he himself helped create is long gone. Plus he doesn't agree with the politics of the SC series, with DA and C's lack thereof no doubt being the reason he agreed to do them. It was going to happen sooner or later but I just wish they had have created a new main character and made Sam the new Lambert. That way he's still in charge of 4E, we can still have Ironside's voice and it makes sense of the stories of the last two games. Either that or they could have just given Sam an Archer style face mask so facial recognition wouldn't be an issue (if that is the real reason which I doubt). That would seem like the simplest option to me.

I love Ironside and his departures saddens me but please watch the "Behind the scenes trailer" and listen to what he says.

If they were going to make a change in the voice actor and make the agent in question MUCH younger than he's been, then it should have been a new character. Michael Ironside is Sam Fisher. This was a bad move.

I'm starting to believe this is a PR stunt. A smoke screen, a diversion. Fans will petition the return of Michael Ironside and concentrate their efforts on it. All the while the devs can remove stealth from the game without much criticism apart from the most "hardcore" of the fans.
I fully support the development team on Chaos Theory- Great job, guys.
It's sad the Conviction team won't follow in your footsteps.

Based on Conviction, I'm guessing the developers don't really care about consumer criticism.

Well, you had stealth throughout all of the first 4 games, its natural they would want to progress from it considering the character himself changes with time, like in Conviction the story was fueled mostly by his personal quest to get revenge on the people who wronged him in the past and some residual duty to save his country.Of course its natural that the game will become more dynamic and chaotic,Conviction was a nice change of pace and now Blacklist seems to combine elements from Conviction and the previous games which could prove to be a successful formula. It does have some way to go until its finished so we should wait and see how it turns out, nothing else could do anyway.I do like your theory on the PR stunt with not using Mr.Ironside's legendary voice(because i really, really, really hope they do),however some things are just as they appear to be.

I own every Splinter Cell game and love them. I still play Conviction three or four times a month, and I'm diggin' the new Ghost Recon game. That said, I'm pretty angry over the replacement of Michael Ironside as Sam Fisher. If Ironside wanted to bow out, like Connery did for James Bond, then that's one thing, but this "actor who captures the physicality of Sam Fisher" is total bull****. First, he sounds like he's 25 years old and this Sam in in his 50's, and secondly I'm pretty sure that physicality isn't even a word. If they were doing the Sam Fisher Begins story then I'd get it, I wouldn't like it, because the whole reboot thing is overdone by now, but I'd get it. I don't know who this Erik Johnson is, at first I thought the voice was Kevin Conroy's and if Ironside was leaving voluntarily, he'd be a pretty good choice, I think the worst thing is Johnson's voice just doesn't go with Sam's face. Kinda like the 70 something Connery voicing his much younger avatar in the From Russia With Love game, and we all know how wonderfully that worked out. This game is going to have to be mind blowing on a galactic scale for me to purchase it now.
