Splinter cell conviction pc major graphics distortion and control lag

Has anybody recently encountered the problem on pc, where when you launch the game, the menu screens look like this: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/7...20461496045273 (this is the link to my screen shot). What happens when I launch a level is that the majority of the sound effects that are not in menus are gone and the ones that are not are very lagged. This has only started in the pas couple of days. However, ever since i downloaded the game on steam in the beginning of last summer, there has been bad lag between the screen and what I do with the controls. With lower graphics settings, the lag gets better but is still noticeable. With the new problems, the control lag is still there. Does anyone have any idea why these problems are happening. Also, there are no graphics or control lag issues on any other games on my pc, and I can run things like the mass effect series, the portal series, and red orchestra 2 on the maximum settings with no problems at all.

Hello Deedeedee13... sorry to hear about your graphic problem/issue. Looking at your image/screenshot, It looks/seems as if you have graphic card incompatibility of some sort... can you provide more detailed info... see below:

    PC specifications:
    processor: Intel Core i7 x980 @3.33ghz
    memory: 12GB RAM DDR3
    video: nVidia GTX480
    audio: Realtek HD Audio
    storage: 2x2 TB hard drive
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
    etc.

    TSR (background) applications:
    McAffee Internet Security
    Windows Firewall
    Bit Torrent Client
    nVidia Driver Updater
    etc.

    Errors message/s:
    "General Protection Fault"
    "Blue Screen of Death"
    etc.

Your particular graphic problem/issue could be (most likely) happening because of hardware or software conflicts, and without this information it's next to impossible to troubleshoot. If you can provide more detailed/adequate information here on this post, I will be glad to help.

    Good luck.

Hello Deedeedee13... thank you for your swift response in providing more detailed info. Well, after looking at your system specs it seems that your ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics card is not supported (see http://ubisoft.custhelp.com/app/answ..._id/13515/p/88) by Splinter Cell Conviction; and if it's not supported, it (most likely) won't work. There is a HOTFIX avalable for the ATI video cards; unfortunately it won't work for the ATI 3000 series... but why don't you give the HOTFIX a try anyhow... who knows, it might work (just don't hold your breath).

    Good luck.

It appears that the link on the page that you sent me to does not take me to the hotfix. could you please link it directly. also, is there any way that I could fix this problem other than downloading the hotfix, if the hotfix does not work?

Hello Deedeedee13... you are correct about the ATI Catalyst 10.4 download link not taking you to the right location... it seems AMD (AMD purchased ATI in 2006) has removed the Catalyst 10.4 download and only has the AMD Catalyst™ Display Driver 12.4 available (this is the new/updated Catalyst). I am not completely certain, but I would imagine that the 10.4 hotfix is included in the 12.4 version... so just install the new AMD Catalyst™ Display Driver 12.4 and see if it helps... it can't hurt... here is the direct link for the Catalyst Software Suite.

    Good luck.

Thanks. I have not downloaded it yet, but I will. By the way, is the control lag a manifestation of the same incompatiblity problem that caused the graphics distortion?

Hello Deedeedee13... good question; yes, I believe that your control lag is due to your graphic card incompatibility. Please let us know (here on this thread) whether or not the AMD Catalyst™ Display Driver 12.4 works... I'm sure other Splinter Cell Conviction owners that have an ATI video card (with similar/same issues) could benefit from this.

    Good luck.

IIRC control lag could be due to v-sync. Try disabling that and see if it works.
