Thread: Iranian Fighter | Forums

I just read a new article about Iran's missile program, and it referenced an indigenous Iranian fighter development, so I poked around the net and found this little page about it: http://www.hostultra.com/~taleblou/IRANAIRCRAFT.html

Does anyone have any more info about it? I just wonder how much of an F-5 is under the skin, and how far along the development is.

    Hi,

What Iran does is always hush - you cannot find any specifications for this at all. The twin finned Saegheh-80. It is the successor to the Azarakhsh which is a 10-15% enlarged F-5F that weighs around 8,000kg, can go mach 2 and is equipped with Phazotron N019M Topaz radar.
Beyond that not much else is known.

The saegheh-80 is described as a possible test bed for Iran in its efforts in aerospace engineering while official government reports say it has entered production and is soon to join the IRIAF.

Admittingly it is not anything in the league of what some of our neighbours fly (UAE F-16s) but for an indigenous effort it is excellent step.
    Hope that helped

Thats an interesting configuration with a twin tail. Are they still using the F-14?

Nope, they sure do have alot of em, but none of em are in flying condition.

and "go right" that was helpful. i've never even heard of that fighter before...just goes to show how many things other countries might have under their sleaves we dont kno about.

Maybe this is the mystery machine that gives them confidence they could hit targets in Israel?

They are proably more wored that Israel might hit targets in Iran bigvette.

Why do you think Israel has that capability?

Looks more than a bit like a F105 with twin tailplanes to me.

finiteless - it's bigger than you think
