Community Challenge Poll - final voting

Ok, there were 2 clear top contenders, each gaining over 40% of votes. Make your final selection. Winner gets implemented for next week - we'll need a quick community discussion on Sunday if option 2 is selected, to decide on 4 or 5 categories, and if they should keep the same names, be renamed as below, etc.

A reminder as to what each option entails:

Keep it the same, but remove expert MM as a song-selecting category.
Entries to the challenge would basically remain the same, but master mode entries would become a side contest, and that winner would no longer be in the weekly song selection rotation.

    Create 4 (or 5) self-selecting categories.
Rather than being placed in categories by score, players would categorize themselves according to their ability levels. An example of how it might look:
    • Division I: Can level most songs to 100%, and can play most songs proficiently - 95+% accuracy. Can master songs like Mean B!tch, Chimney, Good Enough etc.
    • Division II: Can level several songs to 100%, may have trouble accurately playing them at that level. General accuracy 85-95%.
    • Division III: May level some easier songs to 100, but others will be partially leveled. Regularly scores 70-95k. Can level songs like Song 2 single note, Go With The Flow combo, Angela, or chord arrangements to 100%.
    • Division IV: New to guitar. No songs really leveled to 100%.

In this system, Master mode, note streak, and accuracy percentage are side competitions/honorable mentions, and do not count towards song selection rotation. They may be broken up by division if people want to take the time to do that - no promises (I would probably do it when I could though - I think it would be fun). If someone starts winning a division every week, by a lot, they could be asked/forced to move up. People can always participate in a level that they feel is above their skill level.

I voted and for the record, I am clearly a Division III player, usually advanced under the current system (but stuck in intermediate in the current challenge).

Wait, were we supposed to vote for 3 choices?

I'm with you Zuma, I think Div III is where I belong.

Thanks to Cgeorg for spearheading this and keeping us moving forward.

    I do have two questions:

    1) Will it be 4? Or 5?

    2) What does "/bump" mean?

Thanks, cgeorg for handling logistics on this. Thanks to Kinchblade for bringing the subject up for discussion. Hats off to all parties who slogged through 40-some pages of discussion to get here.

"/bump" refers to the fact that replying to a post "bumps" it to the top of the front page. Posting with no purpose other than to increase the visibility of a thread is called "bumping" it.

If Option 2 wins, I think we'd need to (as cgeorg suggested) have a discussion tomorrow about exactly how it would work.

Ah. I always referred to that as "top-posting." Thanks.

But, the post in question did not appear to bump to the top of my first page. . . Does that depend on how we set our filters? I view by oldest first. . .

Filters probably make a difference. I think the default is newest first. And the huge number of stickies on this board sort of renders bumping ineffective anyway.

I voted for the self selecting categories. There, of course, are several logistical issues with this (what if you select Div 2, but cannot score high enough to make it to that point?) But we can save that discussion for tomorrow if necessary.

    Wow! What a ride!!

Top posting is replying above the quote so it's hard to figure out what you're talking about. Commonly seen (and complained about) in mailing lists, where mail messages are top posted in.

A: Because it breaks the logical sequence of the discussion.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?
    A: Top-posting.
Q: What is the most annoying thing on usenet and in e-mail?

Bump is the same as "ttt" (to the top)
