Thread: SH4 Screenshot Comps.......Open Discussion | Forums

    A shameless bump...

Seems the SS contest is dead, thought Tambor said lets hash it out, but I don't think he further responded and Wern and I seemed to be the only two debating......

So are we agreed it's dead. If so, I may try to get another going at a different forum, just seemed the SS contest sort of held things together around here....Maybe it's time
to make funeral arrangements here and bury the old forum.

My original intention when I started this thread was to provide a place where the Forums members who have interest in the Screenshot Comp where you could hash things out and still keep the Comps ongoing. I also mentioned that I would help in anyway I could. The Screenshot Comps seems to have lost interest in these Forum, maybe it is time for things to move on to other endeavors.

Well, for what it's worth, I'd like to see it continue. I'm baffled by the fact that people want to post SS, but not for competition. That denotes or suggests fear of losing, or not being accepted. Heck, I lost to MWolfe all the time but still continued to contribute or participate. Like he once said, and it's true (despite what appears to be my rantings to the contrary), it's not about winning or losing, but about interacting and contributing. Funny thing about it all was, when I would try to post what I thought was a winning shot, I'd lose. When I would just post a SS quickly, just to be able to meet the deadline and contribute, I'd win. Go figure. Anyway, it did keep this community (and that's what we are, one way or another) active and flourishing. The demise of the SS comp has been very coincidental to the lack of participation in this forum as a whole.

    High Plain Drifters, funny...

I know the contest had slowed, but really only within the last few months, then Wolferz vanished. Maybe we can revive it down the road. I do visit the other forum that thrives, but I've
always like this one best for some reason, smaller, but a tighter group. Maybe as I get older I don't like watching things die out..

If there still is interest in the competition i will gladly continue to co-host it with someone in a weekly rotation. Just saying

Well, that's a highly honorable gesture Herr Celeon. If it wasn't for you and Wolferz (and Tambor), the SS comp would've probably fizzled out sooner.
You sir, are a scholar and a gentleman. Now, is there anyone willing to handle the opposing months for Celeon?

Busy schedule and limited play time prvent me from doing very many SS's. I don't have the time or skill to mod things on my own, if TMO 2.5 doesn't give me winning shots, then that's the way it is, so my feeling is the only editing that should be allowed is maybe lightening a dark shot so it can actually be seen. Other than that, I enjoy the SS comp whether I place or not. Just seeing what other folks come up with makes the comp worthwhile.

I have to agree with BigDog. Unfortunately, participation by members seems to be the nut to crack. Screenie editing ,to me, never seemed to pose that big of a problem in the comp. since everybody has different preferences that decided what they thought was a great screenshot. I recall very few comps where it was easy to decide which shot I thought was best, much less which shot deserved a second best. I miss the Comp and wish we could breathe life back into it.

Cel says he will still host, we just need someone else willing to take Wolferz's place {I cringe when I say that} I'm sure Wolferz would want us to continue. Everytime I come here I wonder what happened to him. As long as it's been I hate to say I feel he is gone, but I keep hoping he will show up. I wish we could somehow make a SS sig for the winners in his honor, but maybe that's too much assumption

I'll PM Tambor and ask if he's still willing if we find another host, several have offered in the past. I wish I could do it, I have the time, but about every few months I have to go into the hospital for sometimes weeks for treatment, but hopefully only have to go through it a few more times.

I would hate to see a few bad months end a tradition that has been around here for years.

As for the other issues, I have no problem with it being open to discussion. If we had enough participation, it would be easier to implement more rule changes, but I'm not going back to stock. I honestly don't care if it were an open anything goes contest, except for using PS to blend in material outside of the game, other than that I would have no problem with it...I think it would be cool, but it also may discourage others that don't want to take the time. As for env mods, we all use them. I don't see that my setup has ever gave me any advantage, but I have no problems teaching others how to make minor adjustment to the enviroment files if they prefer different colors...

I do think several at Subsim would get involved if they knew more about it and I could work on that. I'm sure we can come up with some incentives, sigs, certificates, or some way to better honor the winners.

I agree. Being the person that he was/is, I know he would want us to continue. I feel the same way every time I visit this forum. Wolferz was a caring, compassionate and responsible person. I believe if he was OK, he already would've (at least) reassured us of that. I have no other choice (at this point) to carry on in the belief that, one way or another, we have lost a dear friend. I miss him.
