When you use this, it seems WAY too dense, and I just get ****loads of everything packed together. Is there any way to decrease the density, to get sparse jungle like in the fort level after the beach? Or am I placing every single tree individually for that effect?

Just found out how to do this myself. There is a "density" field in the vegetation properties, which you can adjust for individual plants or whole groups at a time. The higher the number, the farther apart the plants will be. But if the number is too high, compared to the radius of the brush you are painting the vegetation with, nothing will show up. The cool thing is, you can make a subcategory of plants where each plant type has it's own density and size variation, so with one click of the brush you can make a whole forest with sparsely placed trees but tons of grass and plants that are packed together. I have found that single clicks with the brush produces better results than painting with it.
