It might have something to do with the angle that we hit the strings or type of strings we use. I use GHS Boomers, 9-42's. I tend to hit lightly and only let the tip of the pick out, and I have the pick at about a 30 deg angle to the string. I also tend to "turn" my hand by rotating my forearm at the elbow rather than a sweep from the shoulder, even on strumming.

I've watched your videos (great job, btw). I will have to watch and see if I see anything that jumps out, but I seem to remember good form.

I'm GHS Boomers. I have some 10-46 and some 9-42 setups.

I do use the tip end of the pick, which is about all that sticks out, when I hold it. Comes from years of squealy artificial harmonics. LOL!

Wow, I'm glad I read page 2. I was really thinking my kung fu was inferior!

I have to admit I have not paid much attention to my "tips" in awhile...

Without a doubt, there are many, many grades of plastic. They may look the same. Might even have the same brand name on them. Materials can vary greatly in quality. I just never would have thought that guitar picks would need to be engineered. I think there was a thread recently about people using cut up 2-litre bottles for picks. . .

Now I'm wondering how my current pick has lasted me since Rock Band came out with the Squier (which is when I took that pick out of my case to start using it). I've seriously used the same pick for over a year, and that's playing untold hours of Rocksmith and Rock Band pro guitar (I mean i was grinding on Crazy Train, Bark at the Moon, and Caught in a Mosh with that pick for untold hours)... It's only a M pick, and doesn't really look warn too much at all.

One day I used that Guitar Center pick, and I almost ate through it immediately, so I think the material makes a huge difference.

A lot of rock pros use the J3 (Jazz 3) picks, it could help you to learn to be more light handed. they are small but hard, they should last and are a lot more playable than the standard pick shape.
