Thread: Can YOU see a cloaked Recon? | Forums

  1. #11
Anyone can see a cloaked recon its the shimmer they have. This isn't perfect armor it's in reality based on what they have been testing now by bending light around objects. Yes this is real. But if you don't know what to look for go watch Predator a few times and you'll have it down pat. as it is exactly the same looking. Also to find cloaked recons this is probably the best way. Get yourself a good set of headphones and listen to them coming. Ubisoft gave recons footsteps sounding like a stampeading elephant lol.

What I'm describing is this. 2 people on the same team standing side by side. One person from the opposite team (recon) standing directly infront of the 2 other players cloaked. Person 1 says "Yes I can see him right here in front of us". Person 2 says "what are you talking about I don't see anything".

It's the idea that some graphics cards can/can't render the shimmer of the cloak properlly, which allows some to see it, and some to NOT see it.

Seeing them has never been a big issue for me, it's keeping track of their movement while cloaked that gets me killed. I mentioned this before that while cloaked, it seems that Recons get way faster, than they were uncloaked. So even if you see them, you're just hoping you can shoot them first. More times than not, it was to no avail for me.

I am exceptionaly bad at seeing Cloaked Recon's

Even when I absolutly KNOW there is a cloaked Recon. Sometimes I can see that shimmer and peg, them. Other times I see the shimmer run passed me and lose them then start spraying the room like an overzealous colonial marine in the dark.

And then there are the other times when I am watching a choke point intently and a cloaked recon just walks up in full view of me puts the barrel of his gun against my forehead and I just don't have a clue.

The only sure fire way that i've been able to consistantly detect Cloaked Recon's is with my ears. I hear that cloaking sound or footsteps when no teammates are around me, time to drop a pinapple nade at my feet and book it.

Just to play Devil's Advocate, it may not be system-related, it could be that the person who is unable to see a cloaked recon is physically inhibited due to their level of colorblindness, astigmatism, or just general vision rating. someone with 20/20 or better may see cloaked recons fine while someone with 20/30 or worse may not see them due to their vision being a little extra fuzzy than the norm.

I have really bad eyes, but they are corrected to 20/20 with glasses.

    I'm one of those people that can't see Recon cloak at all unless they're either;
    a) Running straight at me while I'm scoped in on that exact area.
    b) Literally within 10 feet of me.

I'm not sure if it's GPU related anymore, since I have two GTX 470's in SLI Nvidia Surround mode (and the game runs fine for me this way). Someone else said they had a GTX 470 one day and he was CONSISTENTLY seeing me perfectly from across the map while I was cloaked and sniping me in the head while I was moving.

I think the problem with being able to see people cloaked better in Low graphics settings is due purely to the fact that Low settings is A LOT brighter than playing on Medium or High settings. Cloak seems easier to see against a well-lit background as opposed to a dark background. So a cloaked Recon playing on High running through some shadows might just be running through a well-lit area to someone playing on Low settings.

Either way, they need to make cloak consistent for more people. Make it completely invisible with a sound effect (most of my Recon kills are due to hearing their footsteps, I have a great 7.1 headset), or find a way to run a graphics effect that works the same on all quality levels and across all hardware.

If you cant see cloaked recons you must be either blind or you dont pay enough attention.

Personally, I know more than one REALLY good players who do have a lot of trouble seeing cloaked recon and it's due to NEITHER of the things you mentioned. Apparently there must be at least a third reason, perhaps one of the things Chem mentioned.

Wait, I'm just confused here. You're replying to Chem and yet you're telling him to look up something he had mentioned earlier?
