    Rainbow Six Patriots Multiplayer

The time has come for someone to get into the coveted arena of multiplayer that is domination by COD titles. If any game had a chance this would be it. Other games have severely failed in attracting new customers to the multiplayer arena. I'm hoping the UBISOFT team reviews some of these suggestions.

The first step. Admit that COD rules. Once that's done, avoid focusing on Activision, but focus on the people that play the game. That's your sample size for likes and dislikes.

New publishers want to be different in their multiplayer offering. The solution - is don't do that. Go with what works. Go with what the masses like. A publishers end goal is revenue, so do what needed to a achieve that. COD has set the standard and the masses approve. Learn from that.

Hit detection - Realism is good thing, but not when applied to shooting mechanics. COD is not realistic by any means and that's a great thing. EASE OF PLAY. The weapons are steady and sway is extremely minimal. Hits needed for a kill are few. This makes it easy to play and avoids frustration. Some other multiplayer shooters (prefer not to mention names) are extremely frustrating. Its hard to shoot, aim & you need half a clip just to get a kill. If your opponent (a good player) starts strafing, then getting a kill is impossible especially for a beginner.

Intuitive spawning - Spawn where the safest player is, instead of choosing locations (depends on game mode)

Focus on Team Death match - Keep teams 6 v 6. Whether you like it or not. Its the most popular game mode out there. If you get that right, then other games modes will also share some of the success

Avoid exclusive deals for releasing DLC content. DLC content should release on all consoles at the same time.

I remember playing rainbow six vegas 2 multiplayer a long time ago. The servers were really bad, but I can honestly say I really enjoyed it. Of course several improvements are needed, but this is the title that will hopefully change the multiplayer market. Its a big pie, so feel free to take a big bite out of it. I can hardly wait.

If you have comments or thoughts on my suggestions please share.

Some interesting comments. For the most part I agree. Don't get me wrong, I may like COD, but RS is my first love. I've played that game to death. They opened up FPS and showed us how cool it can be. But its been several years since Vegas 2. The market has changed. COD completely dominates the online field. Adapt or die. Originality is what I expect from Ubisoft, nobody does it better, but they should pay attention to mechanics, stuff that makes the playing experience easy for regular folk. Hence the points I made in my original post like hit detection, etc.

Follow the leader principles are adopted when trying to take on the big boys. You can easily do this without compromising originality.
Examples: When google first came out (decades ago) with their clean look (list view type look & feel) for a search engine & ad models, what do you think happened? Every other search engine out there copied that style. Apple's first iPhone, what do do think happened? After its success every other manufacturer copied it (same mechanics, like touch screen, swipe, app store). They then came out with the iPad which everyone thought was a dumb idea. After its ridiculous success (which I still cannot believe), everyone copied that all over again. Why - the answer is simple money. Of course I'm sure that there some good opinions out there on money isn't everything & stuff like that. But to me more money means more revenue, which means the ability to hire more people. That in turn increases consumer spending, helps other businesses, etc, etc.

I had high hopes for Medal of Honor when it came out. Their single player was awesome, but their multiplayer was a complete disaster. All this orginality stuff don't mean a thing if it can't translate into large sales. Hopefully the higher ups in UBI, know that. You need more that a dedicated fan base to be successful. New customers are the key. Someone needs to do something about the COD reign. They have been at the top too long. We gamers need some variety. There has to be some better choice out there. If anybody can do it, its Rainbow Six. I can hardly wait.

I have to say again, and whatever people think:::::

COD and R6, even though they are both shooters, they all have their own style, their own gamers. Don't try to make hem the same to much, or you will loose your gamers that have been following you for decades. New fans will always show up as, for what I saw, even if the game is still the same (for now), they will always have the need to spice up things with new moves for example.
The make them the same and dont compare... or this means war! =P

Interesting points of view from this thread. I love the fact that the two of you are having a gentlemanly mature debate without the all the name calling nonsense. I applaud you both.

I'm one that would like to see the Rainbow Six Patriots game be created in a similar fashion as the original Rainbow Six (Rogue Spear) games (on PC). I find that far too many games try to be the next Call of Duty game & always come up short. Call of Duty is Call of Duty... so following that same formula is just adding to the problem by releasing another (unofficial) CoD game under many different disguises . We already have enough of those games, official & unofficial (poor attempts).

On the downside, if Ubi decide to play follow the leader again, so be it, I just will not purchase it, no big deal. On the bright side there is a developer that I have faith in and IS in fact creating the type of tactical thinking mans shooter that will be released between Q4 2012 to Q2 2013. That game is called ArmA 3, developed by Bohemia Interactive Studios, I do realize that the game is a large scale combat sim, however I know there are mods that are going to create more close combat mods, I've even heard some are planning to create missions similar to the original R6 (RS) missions, which is what I'm looking for, personally.

Also, with the new very popular Dayz mod, which the BI Studios are planning to included in the final product, BI Studios are going to triple their fanbase and sell a ton of copies. Personally I know about 60 or so console gamers that are planning to build gaming PC's for this game and most of those players are planning to skip the next gen of consoles. I find many console players that are shooter fans, are becoming dissatisfied with the lack of innovation, stripped down features, lack of challenging gameplay and the overall run of the mill generalization of the modern console shooters. They want more but are getting less for their gaming dollar and believe it or not even some of the younger COD fans.

So while I'm very interested in how the Patriots game will turn out, if ends up becoming another Ghost Recon Future Soldier type of general shooter, I will not be that upset... I know that Bohemia has my back!

    Cheers!

I really like R6 LV2. My friends and I play it co-op regularly and experience no problems. What I like about it over R6 LV1 is that you can respawn. I hate following someone around in R6 LV1. Does anyone know of a mod for LV1 that adds respawn for co-op?

Now, not to sound rather crass towards this part of your post, I just have major issues with what your saying essentially

From what I gather your saying lower the skill gap in order to accommodate worse players. Which as a competitive player, I disagree with. Balance is a much more important issue than just making the game almost arcade like. Call of Duty 4- and onward have mastered the modern FPS arcade game. There's nothing wrong with that either, however RS has never really been like that. When I first started playing RS I enjoyed it's slower, more thought out game-play. Pushing as a team and using communication to win matches, it was rather fun. Anyways, before I ramble and make a fool of myself, I just wanted to say. Lowering individual skill gap in order to make the game more "casual" friendly is never the way to go.

It's all about creating a big sandbox for everyone to play in. Creating a game out of the box that can be played casually and competitively.

COD 4 and COD WaW had great dedicated server files and they did rule................then Infinity Ward started IWNET and ruined the game. MW3 could have been a great game but the lagfest on whisper servers is terrible. And.....Black Ops 2 will not have dedicated servers and will be a mess also. I just stopped supporting the COD series until they come back to ranked dedicated servers!

Patriots has a great chance for tactical gamers........they should make it like RS Raven Shield and most of us would be happy...........real tactics................and you can even match with folks like the old days!

The key is striking a balance between mainstream shooters and classic Rainbow Six. Old timers have to face the truth-a hardcore tactical shooter isn't commercially viable nowadays. However, Red Storm actually has to get it right-or else risk ending up like SOCOM.
