Just thought I'd start a little harmless speculation...
1 week from close of Phase 2 (May 21st 2012)
2 weeks from close of Phase 2 (May 28th 2012)
1 month from close of Phase 2 (Mid-June 2012)
Longer than a month (cue migration to GRFS...?)
Just thought I'd start a little harmless speculation...
I think they have a lot of work to do so a month sounds about right!
One way to live One way to die.
Given a pretty big looking conflict caused by thier own Launcher and the way .NET was implimented, it will probably take longer than a month to "fix", judgin by the adherence to the poor policy that all issues must be isolated and be caused not by Launcher but by the players PC installation.
Even after I presented my own testing results and showed that people who simply closed Launcher and .NET had most problems vanish, the stock answer continued to be "Direct X must be installed wrong" or some other position to "blame the gamer".
Interesting. I have not been aware of these Launcher and .NET problems as I was fortunate enough to have glitch-free installation and operation of the Beta. I wonder if the consensus is that there is a lot of work to do and, if so, do people perceive this to be on the technical or gameplay side?
While there surely were players without any issues, there were more than enough WITH significant issues. And, most of the "fixes" we were presented with did nothing but waste our time.
Lag?The Launcher itself was most probably the issue. Bloomberg or other errors
, undoubtably mostly caused by the Launcher; everyone I know who had that problem and simply closed the Launcher found that they no longer had that problem. Disconnects or issues getting connected
in the first place? Most likely the Launcher; everyone who tried simply closing Launcher after launchng the main game found their issues went away
.
Every person who I convinced to try shutting down the Launcher and .NET services found that whatever thier issues, they immediately went away. And, when I asked people if they closed Launcher to prevent issues, many players declared that they had already discovered better connections and no errors if they simply shut down the Laucher after launching the game.
Closing .NET seemed to primarily offer a minor assist with lag issues, but also had some impact on overall stability.
After spending several days with a packet sniffer running locally, it was clear that the Launcher was setting up the PC to be an unauthorized Bit Torrent client. I never tried to figure out what was being distributed, but it was all centered on requests being forwarded from UBI servers. At one point, I logged hundreds of packet requests from UBI forwarded addresses flooding my PC every second.
I have no idea why UBI set up my PC to be thier Bit Torrent slave, but I suspect that this was the direct cause of almost all stability issues.
well I'm one of those people who had little to no issues...Game installed flawlessly, I had no lag aside from your normal lag everyone gets now and then just from being on the internet. I did get disconnections but that was like once every 20+ matches or so...like once (maybe) twice a day. I'm not too sure about video quality because the games visuals, lighting and such aren't the greatest anyway..I have closed the launcher sometimes when I play and there wasn't any noticeable improvement when playing...
I guess the best thing would be to have GRO send crash reports or whatever to see what the problem is for people who do have problems with the game crashing or whatever....that feature seems to be pretty standard in online games these days but GRO doesn't do that when it crashes. At least if it did, then the devs could figure out if it's the players PC that is the problem or if it's something wrong with the game itself.
The launcher seeds the game so others may download it and play

this whole time i had left the launcher open without a care... it was probably why i couldn't steam my 720p shows doh lmao but game still ran smoothly for me
The thing is not who could play with few or only minor issues, but the many, far too many, who had everything from lag to disconnects to Bloomberg and other errors that all were caused by the Launcher.
And, here's the thing - once I started closing the Launcher, I never had another moment of lag, unless connected to a game that had people with low pings.
I directly helped about a dozen people with unaddressed connection issues that simply closing the Launcher fixed immediately. When I say unaddressed, I mean, they'd ticketed lag/disconnects/errors and all they got was "must be your PC" silliness, when it was some conflict with the Launcher all along.
