    Battle of Coral Sea?

Running TMO 2.5 and no other mods.

I'm on patrol, late April 1942, running up and down "The Slot". So far the only thing I've done is bag sampans, junks and "fishing boats" trying to resupply the Japanese troops on Guadalcanal. At least my deck gun crew is getting some easy practice in.

If I detour to the Coral Sea the first week of May, will I find the battle? Will I catch the IJN force coming around the eastern tip of the Solomons on their way from Truk?

In all these years, this is the first time I've been stationed in Brisbane at this time of the war, so I don't know how this will play out.

Personally speaking, the P-40 could contend on an equal footing with all the types of Messerschmitts, almost to the end of 1943.

I don't recall that TMO models Coral Sea. It may model Midway - on a recent career that I documented on this forum, I was returning to base and encountered a large number of Japanese ships heading west from the Midway vicinity in June 1942.

The Mod that captures most of the major naval battles of the Pacific is RSRD (RSRDC for TMO).

I know RSRDC does, but I decided to run without it this play through.

Well, I'll just have to see what happens.

Well, the IJN fleet is indeed there for the battle.

Unfortunately I only got a distant sonar contact (yes I cheated and used externals to see what they were... sorry...), but I was too far away to catch them. I did give it a try, but they must have been running above 25 knots, it was hopeless. I had been on patrol for some time and was very low on fuel so further pursuit was not possible.

Made it back to Brisbane on fumes.
