Fireteams, advanced abilities and when to pay-to-win?

I just qualified for a couple of enhanced abilities (as Recon, I think, not sure): a device that enables me to detect running opponents and another that detects shooting opponents. This prompted the following questions:

    - Are these devices usable within fireteams only?

    - I'd like to do some fireteam play but I have no friends in-game; what's the best way to organise this?

    - The devices are expensive and I've noticed my rare of gaining RP slowing down somewhat; at what point do you guys start reaching into your wallets (if at all)?

    Hey Bahger,

The devices you're speaking of will benefit your whole team, regardless of if you entered the match in a fire team.

The best way to make friends is to hang out here! We've got a lot of cool folks that hang out in our forums. I'm sure someone like Kegaro, JDAce or any other number of our awesome players would be glad to show you the ropes.

Regarding your question about buying items for Ghost Coins, all major items such as weapons, attachments, armor etc. will always be available for both RP and GC. There are a couple non-essential items that are GC only, such as the Boosts which give you +25% RP and XP for 7 days.

Vector Detector displays all enemies within 10 meters of you alone that are running to the team on the map, and with a red box similar to a spotting detector. This detects cloaked recons as well.

Gunshot Detector displays all unsuppressed enemy gunshots within 30 meters of you alone, displaying the name and a static icon. The player may move afterwards but the icon will not move.

Other classes have different passive abilities.

Assault has +5% Armor buff to anyone within range or +0.8 HP to anyone within range (the blue lines on your screen).

There is no way to use cash in the game yet. I have managed to purchase one squad support for both my classes. You should not be attempting to buy a new gun or upgrade every part on a gun. I have seen a few players with 6x scopes on their M24 GI, when they could have purchased a Sentinel SV with a default 6x scope for just 1000 points more. You should only be upgrading guns you plan to keep.

For my recon, I had spare points, so I splurged a bit and tried out every sniper rifle. I plan to sell my Sentinel when I unlock the M200, but I am already satisfied with my SMG and do not plan to buy anything else from my Recon tree except for Tier 3 and 4 armor and the Level 28 squad support.

I found the best way to find a Fireteam is by keeping an eye on Public chat. People are always looking!

A fireteam is a group of up to 4 people who play together on the same side in a match rather than randomly having teammates assigned. It's like an XBox Live party if you use that.

It's the grouping system in this game that lets friends play together on the same team. Right now the maximum fireteam size is 4, but hopefully they increase it to 8 in the future.

It's restricted to 4 right now to help out the matchmaker in matching people. The matchmaker tries to match fireteams against other fireteams before searching for random players to fill spots. So it's easier to match a group of 4 against two groups of two or a group of 3 and a random... Hopefully that makes sense.
