Advantages to not converting city upon capture?

So I was playing the Necropolis campaign and realized that upon capturing a town I don't have to convert it to build buildings and recruit units. If I don't convert it I can build haven buildings and recruit haven units into my army. Are there any advantages or disadvantages to not converting a city upon its capture? Are there stat differences between units such as Haven's Sentinels and Necro's Ghouls? Crossbowmen vs. Skeletons? etc.

Just realized it and thought it was interesting and was wondering if I should always convert cities in the future or possibly leave them unconverted to have variety in my ranks.

There are definitely stats differences between the factions, but I personally convert all of them, simply because some of the spells can negatively affect any units in your army that are not of that faction (think about a dark spell that causes damage to all living creatures, this will also damage YOUR living creatures).

The disadvantages seem to outweigh the advantages imo. For one, your necro gauge will be useless on non-undeads, zero leadership on necropolis heroes mean those living units will never have good morale, it's quite a waste of slots to get those leadership relics because undeads don't benefit from them, specters and archliches won't be able to heal non-undeads while vestals will actually damage undead, you can't have more than 7 different units in an army thus in terms of numbers you will eventually lose out to the more numerous AI, IIRC you can't hire heroes not from your original faction, etc.

Of course advantages - you save the conversion cost, you could potentially get different units that have the same abilities eg. range/healers, if you happen to have heroes of different factions like in Irina's campaign then you could utilize both factions' racial abilities. Though as you probably can see, these advantages are pretty situational when compared to the more favorable option of converting.

I realized that Necro and Inferno don't have advanced marketplace to buy/sell artifacts so that would be one reason not to convert a town, kinda bummed me out when i realized i couldn't build advanced marketplace with necro.

Aside from towns, the forts will only give you 250 gold per day if they are not of your faction and 500 gold per day if they are your faction. At first I thought not converting forts but only converting creature huts was brilliant use of resources and then I noticed the difference in gold income. All in how you want to play the game I guess.

Good reason, but even then leaving just one unconverted is fine enough. Also, if adventure map has artifact merchant you don't need the town artifact shop anymore.

I think it is a very good idea to have different races in your army, just think about having the most powerful ranged units of each faction as the only type of units in your army.

This question emphasises one thing I miss from the older HOMM games. If you could hire heroes from other factions than your own, like you used to, there would be a good idea to keep the towns unconvereted. I think that would make the game more entertaining.
