    Melee Damage

So, in my several-day stint of Recon Elbowing, I've had a few choice melee strikes that do significantly more damage than average. I assume these are "melee headshots?" I know I hit an Assault for a whopping 177 damage running at him, one-shotting him from 140+, when most of my melees to the back of unarmored recons are 120 capped. I know that leg melees are like 20 damage, and that attempting to melee a Blitz Assault is about as efficient as playing with a lawnmower. So, should we basically assume meleeing Blitz Assaults is out of reality due to the damage reduction and reduction in head hitbox?

These days I'm missing more and more, and hitting for less and less damage. I feel like, with the melee system as silly as it is, giving a 1 hit KO for a melee attack isn't necessarily a bad thing!

I'm hitting well on everyone except Blitz Assaults (which is like 90% of the community). The shield appears to be a sort of a problem in regards to melee.

I've melee'd several assault that are blitzing as they run past me, and once a guy who was charging me (yay circle strafe) - you're much more agile than they are, and can jump up and over stuff that they need to go around - so I think the key is either a) being out of their LOS, or b) being near an obstacle and deking them out. I wouldn't count on being able to punch them through the shield head on - it may be possible, but in all likelihood, you would at the very least also get hit and sent flying.

edit: oh and not aiming for the shield when you sneak up on them. go for the head or side of the body. Same thing if you have a gun - if I see one standing in my sights, I aim for the legs or the face - not the core unless they're looking at me. Takes a few more bullets, but they die like anyone else when you shoot in the right spots.

Having said that.. I'm on the fence about the shield protecting when it's not in use. on one hand, it's pretty powerful.. on the other, it's a giant shield.. and you would expect it to still block stuff when it's not in use (however it is probably too effective at doing this)

I've meleed Blitzers in the front when they're charging. But when the shield is off, it appears to reduce melee damage significantly, not to mention block bullets entirely.

Also, when Assaults are prone, where exactly are we supposed to melee? The head is covered by the shield when approaching from the back. Arms, 48 damage. Legs, 20 damage. I hit a prone assault 3 times without killing him.

Heck, even shooting a prone blitz assault is problematic. Aim for the legs or arms, but aim for that giant shield, and no core hits. Heat Assault? No back cover. Blitz is the only ability in the game that provides a passive when on cooldown, and a GOOD passive at that, providing cover to your entire back, as well as most of your head.

There simply aren't enough open vital points that do damage when a Blitz Assault is prone, which is odd, considering Heat Assaults are entirely vulnerable on their back, and every other class is entirely vulnerable on their back. If Blitz were one of 7 assault gadgets, then this would be understandable, but this is one of 2 for assaults, and the easier of the two to use. It basically alienates most assaults from being flanked, which is weird, considering flanking is the most important part of the game. I'm more willing to rush an Assault straight on than from behind if they have Blitz, because I can shoot core from the front.

I dunno about you man, but squaring off 1 on 1 with an assault isn't the most fun thing in the world, considering everyone and their grandma is using the MK16 these days. I'll probably just stick to shooting them to hell with my VSS if i flank them, but man you know when you get into the heat of battle, you really just want to give em a good smacking

Maybe Blitz Assaults should be vulnerable to a one-shot melee where the attacker rips off the shield, bashes them with it, and says a corny one-liner. I think that would make it fair for dealing with prone Blitz Assaults. And hilarious :P

Don't melee Assaults who are prone right now. That's just an invitation to die. Plus, melee'ing ANYONE is difficult when they're prone.

    No it isn't.

    Two options.

    1. Slide-melee.
    2. Crouch over them.

I melee prone people for breakfast!

    Unless they're Blitz Assaults.

HEAT assaults I don't have problems with.
