Check your disk. If you have the "Encore" edition, there is a known issue with some of the disks that were pressed. Their contact information is listed on the disc, you will need to contact them for a replacement.

I wouldn't say harass, but I would definitely use the technical support details that are included inside of the game case

You should be able to click on that link to start a support ticket with Encore. Unfortunately, it looks like they did not add Assassin's Creed yet to there support list. I would suggest selecting one of our other titles and mention this is for Assassin's Creed in your ticket.

So that's your answer? Contact a company that doesn't list the product AT ALL on its website? I bought the same version of the game yesterday and am having the exact same problem.

AAANNND, this is what Encore's customer support just sent back to me:
"Thank you for contacting Customer Support. Technical Support for this title is provided by another company other than Encore. Either support has moved to a different company or Encore acts only as a distributor for this title. Support for this product can be reached by using the contact information below.
    UBI Soft: http://www.ubi.com/us/support
Please note: Read or deleted email receipt features will not function correctly in replies to this email address.
    Sincerely,"
So Ubisoft says it's Encore's problem; Encore says it's Ubisoft's problem; I'm stuck in middle with a game that won't install. AWESOME.

    Hey guys!

Looks like Encore has updated their site. Here is the link they have posted for this issue:

    http://support.encore.com/technicals...roduct_id=2876

From the information on this, they are still working on a resolution. They are asking for you to submit a ticket with them. They now have Assassin's Creed as an option.
