Why do some hate on Rocksmith

.Has anyone else had someone look down on you for using Rocksmith as a learning tool? Until I bought Rocksmith, I never played guitar before. Only GH/RB. Plus I was never able to afford one. So now at the age of 24 (I swear I should have started earlier...like 18 or 20) I'm trying to learn guitar with Rocksmith. Now of course its not going to be my only tool, but it did catch my interest for being something to help me..plus I'm a gamer so that made me want it more. But its seems like a lot of people I know who play guitar just look down on it. And says it hold my hand too much. I dont let it discourage me but Its like some act like snobs...like they dont like that such a tool wasn't available for them....or things are getting easier now days. Anyone else get these experiences?

When I started learning guitar I had people look down on me for deciding to learn with tab instead of standard notation. They thought if I could not play something written in standard notation I couldn't really play guitar. But I really don't care what other people think. From some of the things I read before Rocksmith was released was that some people were bent out of shape over the thought that after spending several years learning how to play someone could come along and plug a guitar into a game console and start playing songs right away. It was like "Oh no, that guys going to impress the ladies without putting in the hard work"

I am 29 years old and learning completely from this game only. I picked up a few techniques from watching the videos of rocksmith online of hand placement to play the song easier, but that is about it. I find it interesting when I went into guitar center a week ago and started playing nobody there I met owned/played the game. I was like really? It is a great instruction tool. I was a complete beginner before the game and was awful. Didn't know a single chord, could barely even play a single note without sounding crappy, and now I can play full songs and I am mastering difficult songs. I noticed my play is sounding cleaner. I don't annoy my roommates anymore. I mastered Run back to your side from Clapton-single note a couple weeks ago and got 127.6k, I played Carol of the Bells Single note at 92.6k (Second solo is at 80% and is super hard) I can play the carol of the bells combo by memory now and on key really well. So I believe those who say this never gave the game a chance or quit early because it wasn't in tablature and was different.

I really start wondering too if this game would of been there teaching tool first if they would still be saying this. I admit the game doesn't teach you everything, but a great starting point nonetheless and if you pay attention to detail in the game you can figure out the where your hand and finger position should be by the highlighted fretboard and by the finger on the string it shows. I read on articles online for reviews that some people posted the game never taught them how to play and it sucked, blah blah blah after like 2 weeks of playing the game. So in other words they never really gave it a try in my opinion.

My guess is they are hating on it because:

    1. They don't undertsand it.
    2. Because it is only on consoles. People assume because it is only on xbox and playstation it is just another "Guitar Game". Guitarist have always looked down their noses at the plastic rock games and in their eyes this is probably the same thing just with a different controller. If it were a PC exclusive though I think it would be looked at as a more legitimate learning tool.
    3. They are snobs.
    4. They are jealous.

My 2 cents anyway. Take it for what it's worth.

Easy response: "When you've got a record deal and are selling out arenas, I'll take your advice on how best to learn guitar." Then invite them over to have a go at "Painkiller."

Because people that play Rocksmith can excel past their level gained by years of sitting staring at OLGA.net playing guitar tabs of Metallica

I don't pay much attention to folks who look down on Rocksmith (or Rockband for that matter). I have fun playing both, so if others don't like the concept that's fine for them.

I work with guys that can play, I can tell that they think it's a "GAME". I think there a little jealous as I started playing in November and have improved immensely. every day I am improving and soon I''ll surpass there skill level. I play 2+ hrs a day in and out of RS but 90% RS. RS has broadened my music taste.

Don't listen to the negative stuff. There are still those who think this thing is nothing more than Guitar Hero, and that's just playing with a glorified joystick. Even though I've been playing for almost 40 years, I enjoy playing this with my kids, because they can actually plug into an amp and play these songs, much like you. I don't feel like I wasted over a grand on their guitars, because they actually get something from this.
