So i've seen people say this game can be hard at times. How hard does it get? Painfully difficult at times?

I found the game to be really enjoyable. It did get difficult at times but never frustratingly so even if you are trying to collect everything.

I'd say -- boringly difficult at times. One has to move step-by-step thru levels to learn the pattern (die/restart at checkpoint/continue); then replay again (multiple times) after learning so as to get time trials. Guess if it was easier then better players (than me) would complain it was too easy! If you have someone at home who wanted to to play with you (alot) I guess it would be tons more fun ... Wish they had made online multiplayer.
