    Playing Outside Rocksmith

It was posted (KinchBlade I think) that the goal is to be able to play the songs in Rocksmith outside the game. While I can play quite a few song riffs now, I'm only now getting where I can play a full Rocksmith song outside of Rocksmith (I have a few others I've learned on my own that I can play).

One problem I have is getting the song started in my head so I can begin playing. I'll get (most recently) Synchronicity II stuck in my head and I won't be able to start, Smoke On The Water for instance. I know the chords but can't get the rhythm started to play the song (or bit of song).

Anyway, my first Rocksmith song that I can play outside of Rocksmith is:

Judas Priest - Breaking The Law

    Carl

Fender MIM Telecaster, MIA Stratocaster; Ibanez Artcore, Epiphone Les Paul 1960 Tribute Plus, Peavey Predator (Ghost Rider).
XBox360: HayabusaJack. Fender Princeton Reverb Amp. Ibanez GSR200 4-String Bass.

I cannot tell a lie, it was me....

I think if you can play along the song unaided (which is MM ultimately) then that's easier than playing completely alone like you describe.
The arrangements on disk suit a band setup which is why many (myself included) would like campfire version (not necessarily dumbed down though) which might make the solo run easier.
Ultimately though, I think if one can't sing and play one needs to play accompanied to make it sound right

Edit: I can play about 3 or 4 well enough that I'd play to friends etc. now, the one I most enjoy is Surf Hell.

This should help you. This site is awesome they offer backing tracks for free download of tons of songs. You download them as an mp3 and play along with the band. This will truly get you going on the right track, and it will be great practice. http://www.guitarbackingtrack.com/

Thanks for the backing track link. I'll be sure to give it a try.

And I wasn't trying to make a complaint thread More of a, "here's my first; anyone else done it yet?" sort of thread I have a ton of jam tracks, I just find that there are times when I want to play a riff and, like forgetting words, I can't recall the rhythm so can't remember how to play the song. This is a little frustrating mostly when I'm camping and don't have backing tracks available.

I hear ya... I do the same, sometimes even when I am playing along with a backing track. I guess to much info and I get brain overfill. LOL But check out the website, I love it. Alot of the songs are the real deal with just the guitars stripped out. And some are covers but most of them are actually pretty good. And there are hundreds of them on there. Have Fun Rocking OUT!!

If you're into iThings, there are a couple of amp apps for iPad/iPhone that can turn any song in your library into a backing track. I've used AmpliTube, and while it doesn't separate out the guitar part you're playing, you can control both the speed and volume of the backing music.

My trouble with memorizing is that I really need to read something to commit it to memory--sight reading in RS is so easy I don't really memorize as I'm playing, usually.

Playing guitar will become like singing, you're going to be playing with the same ease you would have in humming a song. When you're not playing with RS, try just humming some notes and playing them. It will come to you.

Learn various arrangements to each song to become more aware of what else is going on in it.

My setup is different than others probably, PS3 (rocksmith) > Loop Pedal (Jamman solo) > Wah Pedal (Crybaby) > TV (headphone jack) > AMP (line6 spider) > Headphones

With this setup I can record/loop what i'm playing on the game and go over it again and add the other arrangements. If i'm feeling frisky I can just solo over it with the Wah not affecting the jamtrack the game aided me in creating.

    Same here!
And the only one so far, I might add.
I don't really need backing tracks for it, but I guess it's because it's pretty easy to get started with the riff.
I'm kind of looking at Black Keys - Next Girl for the next one to learn. I at around 170 000 or so in MM so it should be possible, but with that one I have the same problem as you..

I am actually considering taking singing lessons so I can sing to whatever I'm playing, otherwise it sounds kind of bare if I don't have backing tracks..
