Assault Weapons Discussion (And Specialists for Shotties ^_^)

Since a lot of us haven't had a chance to buy every weapon under the sun, I'd like to start a discussion about the Assault Weapons available.

I've seen a lot of people running around with the Mk16 SV. That personally isn't my style so I bought a Mk16 CQC, which was a lot cheaper, and SMG-sized. Certainly can't snipe with it, but it has a high ROF equivalent with the M27 and 20% more stopping power, compared to the higher power slower ROF of the other Mk16 variants. It's also got great handling and the smallest profile, making it easier for corner. The default sights on it are horrid, however. When turning corners, the sights become misaligned, preventing an accurate sight picture. I would recommend the default aimpoint or reflex sight for CQB.

yea I really wish their was like a little taget range in which you could try out weapons before buying them. I am currently running with the val C which I am loving. How is the mk16 cqc compared to the val compass? I would love to see some discussion about guns I asked earlier and I know sgtrock said he is loving his mk16 sv which is what I am considering getting.

I skipped the Val, but it seems that the CQC stands up well against opponents with the SV, especially at mid-range, and it has a higher anti-hallway capacity in close-quarters. I'll probably stream a bit. I like it a lot more than the M27, which feels too long for CQC for an Assault.

For my Assault I picked up the Val with all the trimming's (wood stock) the 4x scope, the 30 rnd mag and the long barrel, and it is treating me pretty good. However there are times when I would much rather have the shorty CQC version. Most of those times are when I am playing with Kush and he absolutly obliterates everyone with it.

Don't get me wrong I do like my gun, but the RPM is extreme making mid range combat very tough. What it does excel at is short-range and long range. Short range I don't even bother to ADS (Aim down sight) I simply point, pull the trigger and burn anything and everything down. That is the upside to the extreme 900 RMP.
At long range I switch to Semi-Auto and begin placing precise shots where i want them either holding down the trigger and letting the semi-auto cycle at it's own rate, or just clicking as fast as I want to. I generaly out shoot just about anything at long range, except for possibly the MK16 (Deskpalm, see below)

It is that Medium Range where that 900 RPM gets me, most espiecaly trying to put shots into someone in cover. Trying to Aim with full auto and hit somthing the gun reaches for the sky and is almost impossible to control.

First off I'm sure most of you know this, but it took me a little while to figure it out. Mostly I just had to read the text of what somthing said instead of just looking at the stats.

Grip - Gives you a lot more accuracy and handling outside of cover mechanic. The accuracy, recoil and stability gained while in cover is not as much as if you didn't have the Grip equiped. Which means if your a blitzer, the Grip is for you. If you are a shoot from cover guy, then the Grip isn't doing your any favors

Bi-Pod - Gives you a lot more accuracy, stability and recoil while in cover or prone than if you had no Bi-Pod. Outside of cover or prone your accuracy, stability and recoil are worse than if you had no Bi-Pod at all. So if your a leap-frogging animal than Bi-POD's are for you.

Now this conversation is moving on to a sensative subjective for me, the MK16.

I absolutly LOATHE the MK16 with the BI-POD, I hate it with a passion typicaly only reserved for child molestors and people who talk in the theater (hehe, what movie is that quote from?)

If you take the number of times I've been killed and broke it down by weapon, the MK16 would easily have killed me x3 times more than any other weapon in the game. And if I had to narrow it down to one be-all end-all weapon the MK16 with the bi-pod would be it, and it just kills me that it is. Very high DMG, Good ROF, and in cover or prone absolutly rock steady and accurate. Nothing gives me more pleasure than sneaking up behind somone using that gun and empting a clip into them.

That is, I mean when i can kill them. Most of the time I only get as far as 3 out of the 15 shots required to kill them and they turn my way and kill me in 2-3. But that's my SMG talking, not the Val.

Personaly I think no assault rifle should have a Bi-Pod, save those for the LMG's and snipers.

I would be curious to know about some of the higher end weapon's, the TAR"s so on and such as, they have Burst fire? Semi-Auto. Curious minds want to know.

This thread has not made the decision any easier...
Yea i think the best use for the mk16 sv is mid to long range and it probably makes a decent counter sniper? I think the val is absolutely fantastic for the aggressive assault player but you really need to stick to your role and not bother with long range encounters. What I am thinking now is that I will keep the val C and use it for close quarters and use the mk16 sv for maps that are more open where you are more likely to encounter a lot of snipers.

I Headshots are... 60 damage? You'd need need 2 shots on a Recon with no gear to take him out, unless you get a crit. Add in armor and crit evasion, and chances are, the Recon will have the drop on you unless you can guarantee that second shot to be on target. I usually address recons by going a side path and blazing them down.

I will say I am one of those running around with the mk 16 SV. I see no reason to use any other rifle - ever.
Based on the default tooltips, the mk 16 sv has the following output:

damage: 40 (more than any other AR variant other than the sar-21)
accuracy: 101 ( highest available on any AR variant - though some are tied)
recoil: 24 ( lowest available on any AR variant - add a muzzle break and this drops to 22 which is better than some smg)
rate of fire: 620 (not great, but with the lowest recoil and highest accuracy - you don't need to throw out a ton of rounds)
handling: 83 (not great but the gun is the best available in 3 other categories, adjust your playstyle to suit it)

Add on the extended ammo clip (40) and you can easily take out 3 or 4 guys with 1 clip on full auto in quick succession.
Add the phantom 1-4x scope and the gun becomes so versatile. Great for close range accuracy, and long range counter sniping. Usually not difficult to get off 3 semi-auto shots before the average sniper drops back into cover - if they all hit that's a dead sniper, 2 hits with crit) - good snipers will give you fits though - but they will regardless of what AR you're using.

Full auto, the gun bucks like crazy though, so there is definitely some strategy to using the right fire mode for the job.

Yea i upgraded to the mk16 sv and added the muzzle break and it is ****ing awesome it definitely works as a counter sniper although without an upgraded scope it is difficult to see prone recons when they are above you. Also as sgtrock said it is important to use the right fire mode for the situation as on auto the gun does have significant recoil but burst and semi work great for long range.

I was using rhe mk16 sv for a long time, but now rarely use it anymore. The guns i prefer now are:

    1. ACR - standard version, grip, muzzle break, open reflex, extended mag.
Has a recoil of only 20, good damage and moderate rof. It's very precise at any range, even while moving, recoil is easy to control and you can take out 3-5 opponents with one mag. out my 8 assault rifles, i found this one to be the most reliable and versatile one.

    2. SAR-21 C - muzzle break, open reflex, extended mag.
Real beast at close to medium range, but almost useless on long range due to bad accuracy. I mostly use this gun when forced into close quarters against high-RoF SMG's/LMG's and shotgunners.

Has anyone tried the NS2000? I've been looking at it, and it has TWELVE? rounds? And fires a guaranteed ONE-SHOT for full hit?

Sure, only 60-70 ROF, but it has like 40% more damage than the Penta-gun?
