Division by zero crashes are usually due to bugs in the games' timing calculations. Simply, it's running "too fast" for the systems it was originally tested on (slower CPUs, slower video boards). Enabling vertical sync (to limit the framerate) often helps. This would be in Options/Graphics/Basic.

That's older than usual nowadays, then. In this case, try updating the video drivers to 175.19 (the last version officially supporting GeForce FX) if you have something earlier than that. Enabled floating-point exceptions (which are disabled by default) sounds like something only beta drivers/debug builds would do. You might want to update the AGP (chipset) drivers also, though I'm assuming it's an Intel motherboard, so AGP should not be a problem. Also, check BIOS settings; AGP aperture size should be set to at least 64 MB (normally more is better, at least when there's not enough video memory but you want high texture detail).

Crashes that restart your computer (BSOD, as opposed to just killing the offending app) are normally due to faulty drivers, sometimes faulty hardware. Normal applications, such as games, run in user mode, and cannot restart/BSOD the computer by themselves, without faulty drivers or hardware faults involved. Sometimes copy protection may be at fault, since it often installs drivers, but everybody knows what to do about that.

the game is old enough to meet the specs of his computer, ok you need to disable all graphics options and run the game on basic settings, then start enabling settings one by one until you find the faulty option. but still cannot understand why it crashes on loading saves but runs ok when starting new game. usually crashes on loading are related to RAM, so i was suspecting the virtual memory, but from the log , he has 2 GB available.

I'm more puzzled by the fact it's an FPU exception... unlike CPU exceptions, these are normally always off unless the application or driver library specifically turns them on (_controlfp() call, or setting FPU control word directly?). Which makes me suspect debug builds of drivers.

Had one more idea meanwhile -- maybe setting prerender limit to 0 in graphics control options would fix it, if it is indeed a frame timing issue.
