My mom bought me one of those pick-makers actually. I made one out of the Ace of Spades from a playing card. It looks pretty sweet actually. I still lose picks too often but since I started keeping them all in one spot, they tend to stick around longer. I can't stand those thin picks anymore though, they used to be all I used but now I'm not comfortable with anything below 1mm. 1.5's are my favorite.

I used dimes before.. not to bad.

I used to cut credit cards (ones I didn't activate in the mail) into picks. You get 4 good ones. I tend to use very thick picks now, just shy of a coin, so cards don't work as well.

my pick punch arrived today. works great I used an old atm card. but the only thing that was kinda missing, they should have put a some type of file on so you can sand down the edges of the pick they are quite sharp when you 1st punch them out.

Holy cow! My Dunlop 1.0mm pick feels like it's made of battleship plating; I can't imagine 3mm!
