Help: Limited Main Hero Options? | Forums

I just got this game today via Digital Download from GameStop. Here is the problem I am experience:

When attempting to create a custom game, free for all, I am only allowed to choose between four heroes (2 necro, 1 sanctuary, 1 stronghold). I am given this limited selection no matter which map I choose. In assigning the AI, I can choose from 2 of each town archetype (e.g., 2 haven, 2 sanctuary), but my selection is limited.

When I first started this game up this morning, I had the full array of 2 from each archetype. Can someone please provide some information as to why I am not able to select from all the main heroes?

Hrm - looks like I can create new heroes? I guess that solves my problem, though I'm not sure why I had so many in the first game I played.

When playing a custom map, you can choose from all your dynasty heroes. You usually get dynasty heroes in one of two ways: You create them (which is, I'd say, the best choice, since you have total control over his/her looks, gender, specific ability, might or magic focus) or you finish a campaign and get the campaign hero as a dynasty hero. There are a few you only get through special deals (pre-order bonus, collector's edition).

I don't remember ever getting pre-made heroes for each faction and specialisation, but I won't discount anything what with the myriads of bugs the game is/was riddled with. Maybe you got the CPU heroes as a choice as an obscure error that didn't occur again.
