Custom Maps and Multiplayer
I downloaded a few custom maps but it looks like they only work for single player or hotseat. Any way to actually play with friends on these?
-
nope - they could be made unbalanced or custom-made to complete specific achievements etc...
The official maps are test for balance issues and no cheating thus are proper for ranking purposes.
I am no saying that your custom map is a cheat or something like that, just to avoid similar things on purpose or unintentional, UBI have put this rule - and it is fair enough - so noone nags that his starting position is unfair, the map is unbalanced etc...
-
it is a weak excuse, they could just disable its effect on ranking, Map editor is useless without multiplayer support. People won't try to make and maintain new maps unless they know it can be played online. They disabled it because they are Protecting us from ourselves is not an explanation.

you can play custom multiplayer maps but wont count on multiplayer ranking
-
no you can't, they show only in hotseat games, you can't see them when playing multiplayer online.
-
Yea I wasnt asking about ranked games. Of course you cant use custom maps on ranked games. I just want to use them playing with friends and the game doesnt seem to allow it which is a complete joke considering there is such a tiny tiny map selection and no random map generator. The town screen, no simu turns and now this.. what a let down.

i think ur problem is how to load this custom map.
i downloaded a custom scenario and from the .txt file, the instruction was this
- Put the .scn file into your 'Documents\Might & Magic Heroes VI\Scenario' folder
The \Scenario folder didnt exist so i had to create it myself. Make a foldier named Scenario and put ur custom map there. May work. If you have to create another specific folder for this i dont know

You are right about making the folder Scenario. Put all unzipped custom map files into this folder and they work. That is if the map maker made a working map. Problem there are not many Heroes VI maps out there.
