    Fan Service

Ubisoft could take a page out of 343 industries play book. Reading in Game Informer about Halo 4. 343 is planning on using company resources to maintain and encourage players to play the game after release by releasing weekly Spartan Ops missions which will continue for months after release. I would really like to see this kind of dedication from other game devs...after a disappointing laggy weekend back to ACR after a ME3 breaks, Ubi really needs to pay attention to fan service.

    Business essay:

A business promotes and varies their product for many reasons, either to extend product life and attract more customers. Ubisoft, considering they will be releasing a very new product very soon, are unlikely to do so as sales generated from AC III will far exceed sales they generate from promoting and maintaining ACR i.e. AC III is a new game and thus people will favour it whereas ACR is at the end of it's life cycle and will not sell as much as ACR despite product maintenance and variation.

On the other hand, promoting and maintaining previous products' quality improves brand image, increasing the number of potential customers e.g. you, me and other members of this forum. However, companies only make decisions that directly change how a potential customer sees a brand only if it in turn directly affects sales. Therefore, since the target market of AC III e.g. re.tards and CoD freaks and 8 year old kids do not care about brand image, Ubisoft will not go to the trouble of doing such things, as products will sell anyway.

In conclusion, it not wise, from UbiTheft's point of view, to maintain ACR considering there will be no large benefits from it.

Thanks for the topic though, helped me practice for my Business Studies exam

I agree with you that Ubi has no intention of doing anymore fan service with ACR. However they would do well to pay attention to the growing trend of disatisfaction by consumers in the gaming industry. There are a lot more "mature" gamers out there ie: over 25ers who are consumers and are appalled at the lack of customer service in this industry. I myself fall into that category and see a shift in quantity over quality mentality out there in among developers. Ubi has proved this with 2 games released in quick succession...ACB and ACR with virtually no fixes or communication. Their excuse is always that they are busy working on the next game. Judging from the fallout down with the ME3 ending and consumer confidence way down for Bioware, Ubisoft should take note,. In this economy people are thinking twice about dropping $60 for each new game that comes out. And if $60 is indeed spent, they want a game that has replay value. I can spend $60 on Netflix and get more hours that the average game that has bugs and glitches galore. Which is what AcR has become...So to hear that 343 is going back to the old Bungie model of game and fan service and WANTING the community to continue to play their games well after the release date is very refreshing and what devs need to do to continue to foster the good will of their customers.

This is all very true but like I said, the larger portion of their target market are 8 year old kids and re.tards. It's true a sizeable amount of the target market includes people such as you and myself but I believe we're outnumbered by stupid people... D: Therefore, I largely think they won't care AT ALL, as in, NOT AT ALL, about us soon enough. Like dumb down the game even further.

Try as I might, I´m not trying to sound like a jerk per se. It´s something I´ve been studying recently in class, and it´s about how businesses profit from the lack of knowledge of their customers. In this case, children and CoD fans are the "unknowledgeable" customers.

I know I sound like a jerk when I say that basically Ubi profits from uninformed (or to be blunt, stupid) customers, but that´s just me repeating the knowledge I picked up in Business Studies class

i wouldnt give what youre saying too much credit though krispy is on the money game sales as a whole are down by 8% with companies like ubi and bioware actively creating their own problems and making things worse for themselves ubi hopefully (fingers crossed) is taking note and have prepared for us a satisfying conclusion to the story weve followed for so long

i fully expect them to botch the multiplayer i hope they dont but i think they will wich will only result in less sales from DLC or MP only players respectively also some people think a game should have a good MP or they wont pay full price and wait for used copies

this industry has gone out of its way to tell consumers to shut up and hand over their money and with the average gamer being between 18-35 yrs old its not entirelyu clever all those kids that used to nag their parents to buy things are now adults whove grown up with gaming and will make informed decisions now they have the sense

This is so true..they just expect us to hand over our money blindly accept poor quality products without question. If this was any other industry, people would be leaving the product in droves. As a consumer I am appalled at the state of gaming. I for one am going to be way more selective in the gaming products I buy.

I'm a completist. I guess that puts me in the "re.tards" category. I will buy AC3 to play the final part (hopefully) of the 2012 Desmont storyline, fully expecting that any multiplayer it may have will be full of bugs, glitches, lag etc. After all, noone has ever come to tell us on the record that the problems that plague ACB and ACR will not be repeated in AC3. But it will be the last AC game I buy. If they hadn't introduced the multiplayer I wouldn't feel this way and would continue to buy the series till it stopped. But now, with each game I feel like I'm throwing away my money because I get something that is less than what is promiced. No multiplayer would make the game feel more satisfying than a broken multiplayer
