Thread: FarCry3 map editor wish list | Forums

  1. #11
I only just recently found out about FC3 being released. There has been so much speculation and rumour on various forums for years that many of us assumed the series was abandoned. I really do hope the new editor has more to work with. It was the editor that gave the game its longevity, the only thing I wish happened with FC2's editor is that there could have been some sort of post-production DLC to keep it fresh.

Ubisoft is one of the best developers I have experienced, and the Farcry series is my ultimate favourite, directly because of the map editor. With that said, a few things I would like to see in the next editor is not just tropical and desert themes, but environmental themes from every climate on the Earth.ie. glaciers/Arctic, jungle, desert, forest, plains, etc. Being able to create snow capped Mountains would be nice. Even if you could adjust the hues of ground textures, this would open up multiple possibilities. You could go even further and ad some extra terrestrial textures/items for those who want to create, say, a space themed level. Ashphalt is a definately needed ground texture. another thing is if there could be thinner structures, if I want to make a custom building, it currently has to have 10 foot thick walls. more variety of stairs, maybe even large pre-fabed stairwells that can be stacked to create sky scrapers. I think the most requested theme is heavy urban. large modern urban buildings could be an addition along with the current colonial, shanty, dogon, etc themes. Large military structures like Naval ships, Air base structures ( air traffic control towers, large radar arrays, SAM sites, etc). they don't have to be interactive, for the sake of memory, just solid and climable. more variety of lighting ( electical sparks, lightning, distant artillery explosions, road flares) better non driveable vehicles ( big rigs, Greyhound busses, fighter jets, attack choppers). Ability to add sound effects, not just have wind and birds, but gun fire, artillery, thunder, screams, air raid sirens, urban traffic) And additional content releases periodically based on user requests. These are just a few things I would like to see!

    PLEASE UBISOFT! DON'T IGNORE US!!!
Please space your giant wall of text next time so it's easier to comprehend

Since this is a wish list then here I go! here is just a series of things that would be cool: water falls or waterfall tools, tunnel making tool, ability to change seasons for plants, barbed wire (could turn on/off damage if touched), campfires and other lighting fixtures that add ambiance from lamps and candles to spotlights and street lights, more furniture, flags (possible custom made flags perhaps?!), more natural ladders like ropes, vines, branches, spikes( same with barbed wire), fish spawners and varied bird spawners, graffiti and posters for walls and floors, military grade structure like barriers, checkpoint stations, camouflage, hedges, statues, pretty flowers and garden plants. non dirty glass panes, ability to change the direction of the sun, floor level fog thats thick, big *** trees, flat topped rocks, and of course some actual dark nightfall which could be lit up with lights of course!

The most important for me is modular pieces. I don't want to be limited to prefab object, i want to create my buildings, my structures...

I wish there was a tool in the editor that pulled up images from Google sketch up's 3D warehouse. I've been using it for my last Fc2 map and I needed images of a mini destroyer ship , and a telarge test tube with a alien in it. You can get a 3D copy of just about anything you could think of from a deli sliced to a cruise missle . The models can be zoomed in and turned every wich way I don't see myself going without it for any other maps I make . Try it out its called Google sketchup 8 once you get it go to 3D warehouse and search anything its very useful. If it was built into the editor of would be a dream come true ' can't wait to show everyone the destroyer it turned out ridiculous .

Google sketchup is an awesome program. I use it to create buildings and scenery for X-Plane 10. The only problem with structures you build in that program isthat they are not solid, your character would be able to walk clean through any wall. Maybe if you could import an image onto an object already in the level editor, and perhaps even change the size of the object. Perhaps for FC4 level editor in the distant future, lol.

I heard crysis 2 had some involvement with Google sketch up to some degree but it would be way to involved for me. It's more of a visual aid for me .

I used to Map quite a bit for Counter strike source, I Had a few popular maps like GG_stonewalled and fy_Complex which had there momments on servers around the globe I remember it was good to know people played your creation and given the tools to create I will certainly try my hand at a Far Cry Map.... But for me one of the most helpful things is prefabs... Can we have a big list of these to choose from so people can get started quick and have de-compiled maps that ship with the game to also help us learn the settings that are used on these maps for our own please

Can we have the option to have players spawn without weapons and have to navigate the map to find weapons in combat like Old skool days too please... This can add some interesting gameplay start with nothing and have to scavenge your way through a map constantly finding respawning weapons at locations
