    Map editor, Multiplayer

Hey guys, I was just thinking about map editor recently, and some cool idea popped up in my mind. why not have a multiplayer map editor, where multiple people online can all work on one map, its a great step up from the other series, plus face it, two minds are better then one . I think this is something that should be implemented as an added bonus as its the 3rd in the series. Do you guys think the same? tell me if you do.

The idea has been proposed many times and is already confirmed NOT to be happening.

It is a great idea. Would make map building much faster and much more entertaining with a few buddies in to help you out.

Issue is though.. how would you prevent people from testing out the map while you are still editing?

I don't think you could allow 1 person to be testing and another editing... Unless they changed the editor such that you are technically "testing" all the time but can have a sort of create mode on so you can add stuff in and fly around.

i have seen multiple map editors that allow people to run around while others create, like halo forge and lbp. but i think you mean stopping people from testing while you edit, there can be an allow system so if you want to test host gets a request to so yes or no, or the host can flat out just put you in and out of testing, as he is host. but to be honest i don't see how that can be a problem, because they might be testing something, but you can be working on something of your own in the map editing, its pretty unlikely to clash. and plus you'll probs be map editing with friends no harm there.

Would only make things confusing. Maps should be made only by one person on command. What would be better is other persons spectating and speaking with the editor

but think of it like this, the spectator is actually helping build the map not sitting back shouting for you to "PUT GRASS THERE" plus i dont really like to sit and watch someone do stuff, i wanna be involved. i don't think it would be confusing, unless you decide to bring random guys in just for fun and to muck around with the editor, but im sure if you want to be serious you bring in friends, or you can do it yourself, its optional.

Sorry in advance if I start ranting. Just writing obstacles that should be adressed if the FC series is ever going to have CO-OP map editing in the future. First the host should be given an option in the map editor if he wants people joining, to test the map while he edits. Second and this is more game clan oriented, would be another option to vote who in the group should edit the map. Third is to give the players testing the map the ability to respawn in case they get stuck somewhere.

That could be fun. I think it would encourage better maps.

The act of map editing would certainly be more fun if we could have at least one online friend spectating. Especially, considering the hours many of us put into it. Also, there are numerous times that I could use someone's opinion as I'm deciding between certain objects, formations, etc..

I don't see why anyone would oppose this idea. It'd make the mapping easier and more fun, and it does work. LBP is great proof. Four people can create and test at the same time and nothing seems to end up wrong with me..

I have quite an important question regarding co-op maps.

Currently, in FC2, to co-op a map one person starts, hosts, the 2nd mapper saves the map then overwrites it.

I think it has been advised that maps will be protected from editing in FC3. Does this mean that it will not be possible to make a map with other people at all or is there some kind of work around. Or does the info so far mean that you can't publish maps which have been started by someone else.

If the map simply can't be edited after its published then theres no problem. But if it is protected from editing by other mappers (during pre-publishing) then we won't be able to make maps jointly.
