    Some personal opinions after beta

    Hello,

Not sure exactly where this should go, so I assumed General Discussion was as good a place as any.

First, let me thank Ubisoft for the opportunity to participate in another beta. Having had the opportunity to participate in the Assassins' Creed: Revelations beta was an exciting opportunity, as is my chance to test GRO.

First, guns seem to be very well balanced. Especially in comparison to some other shooters which tend to render certain weapon types generally useless.

My biggest concern with GRO gives me flashbacks to Assassins' Creed: Brotherhood. That is, the sheer impossibility of leveling as a later participant. This stems mostly from what seems to be imbalanced devices.

I feel like I struggled through constant head shots to get to get to level two only to be rewarded with a heat sensor that blocks me from shooting my weapon. Meanwhile others are running around with invincibility force fields and somehow detecting me from out-of-sight. I still don't even know what it means when my character flashes red and it says "You've been detected by (Name)."

Obviously someone on the opposing team has detected me, but the implications of it are a mystery to a new player.

Another problem I faced was hit detection. I have absolutely no idea if my shots are hitting people or not. Meanwhile, other players seem to get consistent head shots even though I can't see them. Which likely stems from the fact that others can turn invisible while I'm left to be a sitting duck.

Which is why I mentioned AC:B. I feel less like an active participant and more like exp fodder until I've put in enough time to be allowed access to "abilities" that level the playing field.

Obviously there should be some benefits to having put in the time to level higher. But it's almost impossible to compete at lower levels.

The detection thing is called Oracle (its not the players name, its the name of the device). It is a level 2 (afair) device for the recon class. As for the hit detection, you can actually see not only if youve hit or not, but also how much damage youve done (handy)

As for the invincible shield - i'm sure there is a weak point there somewhere.

i can agree. for new players.it sucks!

not really the reasons you said. but plain simple matchmaking bull****.

im lvl 3 and i like to play against people of lvl 1 to 5/8. but not against players that are lvl 17 to 25...

    thats just stupid.

if they fix this, than i wouldnt have any worry's.
but as of now, match making sucks.
not only level wize. i see people with red/orange and green pings in the same match.all from different continents.just let europe plai against europe.and america against america.

and maybe some match making options/filters.

    but yha.
    its a beta..

Too many people think exactly as your are and say that the new guy has no chance, which is completely not the case. This game has a lot more to do with player skill then anything else. You do not see any significant advantage in weapon damage until lvl 30, which most people of that level are still saving RP to buy. Some of the best guns currently in the game are lower level weapons. I currently have a level 30 Specialist, but feel equally as comfortable entering a match against anyone with my level 14 Assault or my level 6 Recon. I ran my Specialist from level 7 to level 30 while using the same armor I had bought when I hit level 7. I used the same LMG from level 15 to level 28. I think your main issue is that you are new, you don't know the in's and out's of the game yet. There are plenty of videos out there showing game play and even videos showing new players what everything is.

Obviously you have not read any of the matchmaking threads that are out there, so I will clear some things up for you.

The matchmaking system is not broken. The matchmaking system parameters have been simplified for the Closed Beta so that it gets people in games and playing.Being a Closed Beta, the player selection pool is not very large to begin with, anywhere from 500 to 700 players on any given night. When you take into consideration players that are already in matches, players that are sitting idle, etc., that makes the player pool even smaller. So for now the matchmaking is just trying to get people in games and playing. Once the game moves into Open Beta and the player pool is much higher, you will see that the matchmaking system will be more accurate in it's ability to properly match players.

If you are playing in the North American beta, then you are mainly playing against people in, you guessed it, North America. The reason you see people with Red and Yellow bars is because of not only their distance to you, but also has to do with the type of internet service they are using. It's not that you are being grouped with people from all over the world, although I will admit there are a few players from outside North America playing, but they are few in numbers. Not everyone has a T3 or Fiber Optics running to their house.

It is indeed very very confusing at the beginning but look at the bright side: its a beta right? So now is the perfect time to test things and figure it out what is what and which class is suitable for you. No worry, you will get it all you have to do is to look around in the forums, and do like I read it many times when I was a rookie: observe others game-play and copy them! If you see someone going to a read letter with blue with blue frames on the floor, you go too and help him and stuff like that.

But I have a question: how on earth did you manage to get in Assassin's Creed Betas??? I always wanted to test stuff in AC but always all I had found was Beta for PS3...

PS. Teamwork is the key of success: using your heat combined with others Ageis shield is a killer combination, and you can always use Blackout against that not quite invincible shied.

Actually this is the first time I read about this! But this way too, its no fun having three lvl 25+ at the enemy and I being the top one in my team with my lvl 18. Its just not fair! Or having 7! Recons with cloaks and SMG's at the enemy or 7 Recons with sniper rifles in your team.

You may think it's unfair, I personally don't have an issue with it, but that's the way it works at the moment and there's nothing you or I can do about it.

I used level 7 phase 1 armor (they changed the stats after phase 1) and level 5 As Val all the way to level 30. So the only small advantage I had on my opponents was my As Vals crit rating since I used it so long. I have had a friend go 18 and 2 on a level 2 recon. This game has a learning curve, people don't understand where they should be positioning themselves and when they should be moving up or sitting back. The only problem I see in low level play is, all the level 1 guns seem really crappy to me. Once you hit level 5 buy a new gun, Most every level 5 gun can last you all the way to level 30 if you understand how it should be used.

Well I just reached lvl 20 yesterday with Specialist using Pentagun SD, but I had to buy a new gun because I had it with its small magazine (5 bullets)
