Anyone ever been to "Bomber Camp"?

Now I've seen and heard of my share of "fantasy camps" but these usually involve some fat, old git trying to capture a fantasy (baseball usually) that never existed, except in his overwrought imagination. Here's something new (at least to me) "fantasy bomber camp".

That's right for two action packed days you get to "crew up" and man a B-24 Liberator. After that it gets a little sketchy to me... Where to do we fly, what do we drop, will there be similated Axis baddies up there? Do I have to do my own sound effects? Duh duh duh duh duh (50. cal sound effect)? All this for a mere 4 Grand! Anybody ever been? Anybody goin?

Ooooh. Seems the baddies will (tentatively) be showing up in an Me-262. But a P-51 escort fighter'll be showing him the door (also tentative). Then it's dummy bombs on some harmless bit of countryside, or if the navigator screws the pooch/decides to engage in some urban renewal, Stockton (come friendly bombs?).

I read about this in one of the flying mags, Worf, and it seems that there is a fair amount of live ammo involved. Plenty of gunnery practice. The site you linked had a nice video of some of what was involved. From what I read about this, it's a great weekend that involves doing fun stuff with a B-24 and .50's. If I had the scratch to do it, I would.

Yeah, it was in one of the recent-ish issues of "Air and Space".
    Interesting stuff.

Sounds like fun - not that I could afford it. Probably just as well. I can imagine arriving at US customs (assuming they've given me a visa in the first place, which isn't a foregone conclusion): "What is the purpose of your visit?" "Bomber camp...". Sound of sirens, and of men in trenchcoats and dark glasses reaching for their Smith & Wesson's...

Doesn't leitmotiv live in Stockton? Release bomb bay doors! Not sure Stockton would really suffer from a bombing run though.

Also you don't need a visa to visit the US andy, at least coming from the UK. The dopes at US border control at the airport will treat you like garbage when you arrive though, they even do it to American citizens.

Been on the Colling's B-17 9-0-9 and it was a blast. Everyone aboard for the flight were acting like a bunch of little kids, me included. We had the best flight weather ever. I did not know we touched down until the tail started dragging. Wonderful flight.
The bomber camp seems a little out of my price range so it won't happen for me.
