even a link to a song that you think sounds Egyptian would be helpful
This is my favorite scale for Egyptian/Middle Eastern sound. http://www.theguitarsuite.com/Theory/Minor-Scale.php

The Harmonic minor is my favorite of these.

I have another simple question. In my quest to put all the modes for all keys into muscle memory , i have noticed one thing that i cant figure out.I have not seen the minor scales

I am using (The Guitar Grimoire scales and modes ) my book has all the major modes but i cant find the minor scales , i think i may just be missing something simple because this book is supposed to have all the basic scales and modes , i have been wanting to ask this question for a while but i haven't because i was thinking that i would figure it out by now.

my book has Melodic minor,Harmonic minor ,Hungarian minor, Neapolitan minor and enigmatic minor, but im wanting just the minor scales, lol i feel like the answer is yelling at me but i cant figure it out.

    http://www.google.com/books?printsec...page&q&f=false

i have been messing with the modes and im thinking that when i start on the VI position (Aeolian) it makes the scale minor, it just amazes me how much information is in the modes its like i learned way more information than i realized and i just need to think about it a little differently to figure out the other keys ,

its funny how some days it seems like this stuff is easy then other days i feel so confused by simple things

I have the Guitar Grimoire DVD and book. Great tool. Some other helpful instructional DVD's are Hal Leonard's series, Fretboard Logic, and Guitar World's magazine and DVD's.

now im thinking that if the first mode (ionian) is the major scale, goes with major chords, and the sixth mode (aeolian) is the minor scale, goes with minor chords, then what are the other 5 modes im using and how can i play those other modes in chord form as well

the more i learn, the more i learn i dont know much ><

ill have to check out the DVDs you linked im kinda feeling like im at a brick wall with my book.

From the Major scale, the Dorian (ii), Phrygian (iii) and Aeolian (vi) are all minor modes. The Ionian (I), Lydian (IV) and Mixolydian (V) are Major. Don't worry about the Locrian - it is a diminished chord at the root, and rarely used.

There is a different scale called Melodic minor. From that, the i and ii modes are minor (melodic minor and dorian b2). It looks like this (G Melodic Minor):

    E|-----3---5-6-
    B|-----3---5---
    G|-----3---5---
    D|-------4-5---
    A|-----3---5---
    E|-----3---5-6-

Try it with these chords: Gm, Am, Am7, bB aug, C Maj, D Maj, E dim, #F dim

I guess my biggest problem is memorizing each pattern in relation to each other, i can whip out all the modes of any major key fast, its a good feeling to know where the notes are on the fret board and where each mode starts and ends, what im trying to do now is memorize each of the scales , I am trying to develop my own opinion on each mode, how they work with each other. some modes seem to work well with others, and some seem to not work as well , Like if i play E Lydian what would be another mode that would work well , should i go to E Dorian or some other mode in E. I have found that i am liking a few of the patterns better than others.

its going slower than id like it to go but oh well at least im making progress , this time last year i didnt know any modes of any keys id just hunt and peck my way around some times it would all magically work out but a lot of the time it was just not right. now im seeing why it was good some nights, i would stumble into other scales like i had this thing i would do some times that made the blues scale sound Egyptian kinda , i didnt know what i was doing i just knew that every now and then it felt right, now i know i was getting into the blue note and hanging out for a while , some times when i was lucky id even start to play a harmonic minor scale but id always mix it with the blues scale.

Thank you for you patients, i know some times i need the same question answered a few different ways before it sticks with me. 8D

The modes are a guideline, crispy, so don't get too caught up in it. If you can't play what you hear in your mind, then it doesn't matter if you know every scale or mode. Play what you feel, bro.
