An ingame tutorial may be helpful to new players

Yes, there are guides on the forums, and the ones I've looked at are not only well written, but actually improved my gameplay (thanks Gameshoes, http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php...closed-beta%29). For those of us willing to do some reading, these are a great boon.

For those of use not willing to do some poking around, I think a short, class-based tutorial may be needed. It could cover some lesser known aspects of the game, like cover bonus' and how/where/when to use your abilities to be effective with them. Even a short video, that plays on your selection of a new class, could be very helpful to newcomers.
I see people every day, that are shocked to see another class's abilities used, and some go as far as to cry "hax", when the reality is that your were oracled/emp'd/cloaked etc.

Feel free to add your views or opinions on this.

An in-game encyclopedia like we have seen with Shogun 2 Total war [link] would definitely be useful, such as some basic tips and descriptions of abilities and weapon types. A series of videos would also be a nice alternative. It shouldn't go too much in depth (each person has their own opinions) but I do think that at least some basic strategies and descriptions would be a good start.

I think this needs a bump. I cannot count the number of times a new player has asked "How does x ability work?", or heard someone fry themselves by letting aegis or blackout overcharge. What I'd like to see, would be a short tutorial on each ability, when you unlock it for the first time, that shows you how to use it, before you can equip it in battle. It took me almost a week to realize you have to push the LMB to make heat work, since it seems to activate the beam when you start it. Not knowing to push the left mouse puts you at a serious disadvantage, and since there's no visual or audio que that it's working any differently.

The recon abilities are pretty straight forwards, the blitz is, too. The other three have different useage methods, and I think new players would be less frustrated if they were shown how they work. You wouldn't be sent into combat without basic training, especially if you were given advanced technology like the abilities in GRO.

This is especially true for HEAT and Blitz Assault abilities.

Blitz at its base is self-explanatory, but the game neglects to mention that the Riot Shield when not in use serves as back protection from projectiles, and as cover for teammates when dead.
HEAT, the only way to salvage this is to either write the entire instruction manual on the thermal interface or have someone write a guide for how to use it, There is no in-game mention of the ability to zoom in or hot-fire the ability, nor any description of how the suppression ability works (They have to be in the beam for 1 second to be suppressed, meaning enemies behind cover are never affected for any meaningful extent).

Hey guys. We're in the process of writing a beginner guide for the game. But until that's released. Feel free to help us out:P

To be honest, the game doesn't need a tutorial. I got it today, having never played a GR game before, and came top of my squad in my first game. Honestly, if people really need a tutorial for a game like this, they shouldn't be playing it. It's so smooth and just altogether god**** awesome that you can just play it and get to grips with it in about 10 minutes. In fact, the purchase necessity at the start frustrated me somewhat as I would much rather play a quick match and get a pistol than get 'nades straight off the bat, but whatever.

I've played about 4 matches now and I adore this game and am going to be playing it consistently for weeks upon release. This, GW2 and Diablo 3 (+ GTA V and BO2 Zombies for console) are easily my most anticipated games for a long time. Good job Ubisoft. Let's beat EA!

You seem to have figured things out quickly, such is not the case with most casual players. As the casual players make up a big portion of UBI's target audience for this game, an ingame tut may be the only one these folks ever see, if they don't visit the forums. When you see people asking questions of other players ingame, on basic things like how to use the voip, or how to activate an ability, clearly there is a need for some form of instruction.

In game tutorial of how to use the abilities and how to counter them would be great. (optional if you feel confident enough without it)

or a newbie matchmaking system would be a decent way to go too, a way to control the level/gear gap in a way while learning how to play.
