That's what faced when I started, and I stuck around long enough to realize, it's not the gear that beats you, it's the guy using the gear.
Now I'm on the other end of it, and guess what? I still die to low level players. Like ChemZero said in another thread, the lower level weapons are just as effective as the higher levels, the higher levels tend to specialize in one aspect, be it accuracy, RoF, or damage output. They are just as balanced as the lower level weapons, they just cost more.
Lets post about how bad the matchmaking system is in a closed beta with only 500-700 active players. Because, you know, those are ideal conditions for the matchmaker to work properly and match teams evenly. Not to mention that the majority of those players are in a game or not currently looking for a game. The pool of players looking for a match at any time is likely 50 or less.
Guys... Seriously... Please stop complaining that the matchmaker is broken, we can't actually know if it is or isn't until AT LEAST open beta when the population of the servers increases exponentially and the matchmaker has some numbers to work with.

They've already made it clear that "match making" right now due to low population is simply to find players and put them in games together. They've also made it clear it will be changed around once the player base increases.

So, your arguments so far are:
Levels don't play a role at all. It's the player behind the toon that matters.
and
Population is low so that's why matchmaking can't work properly.
Why do we discuss the matter of rage quitting at all then? If the population grows that issue will sort by itself... so why talk about the matchmaking system at all when we're in an environment where we even can't test it out properly because there are by far not enough players to adequatly judge it's function.
And people will still be put into teams where they have to fight high.lvl veterans even if the display of the player's levels is removed. So they will just be raped by some players but don't know why. The only thing the removing of levels will result in is other players calling you hacker and cheater because they now can't see that you're a high-lvl veteran![]()
Every time someone calls me a cheater or a hacker I take it as a compliment to my skill, I usually just reply with "thanks!" and that shuts them up.
That or they go on a rant and report me, only to be laughed at by the server admins of that particular game.
Either way I keep playing. I've already been called a hacker in this closed beta by some pubbies*, I'm sure anyone that's decent and played since the beginning of Phase 2 or earlier has seen it.
* Pubbies are players who are forever alone and only ever play by themselves. They're usually bad at the game since they can't communicate with anyone and fail to grasp anything beyond the VERY basic game mechanics. The term is derived from "public" and not "pube" so please don't be thinking it's a derogatory term about nether-region hair!

i disagree with you the low level players are at a disadvantage anyway you slice it. If nothing more then lack of rp to buy extras such as grenades or a pistol etc giving higher ranking players a huge edge. I can't count the times i ran out of ammo just short of killing someone with the starter gun. I was unable to afford a side arm and was killed by someone with one after they ran out of ammo like me.
Also when i got a level 15 weapon or so there was a big difference to me at least between those guns and the starter guns. If nothing else a new player like other games should get some grenades a pistol and a starter rifle. A new player needs a little more to succeed then someone experienced and should be give more rp as well to start so they can buy some assistance.
This is just my opinion and could be argued either way by which class you start with etc..

Just because the population is low and their is no level matchmaking system yet, doesn't mean that the problem of people quitting matches should not be addressed. IMO level does not matter, one of my friends went 18 and 2 verse high level players as a level 2 recon. I only have a level 2 recon and I suck at sniping and still can go positive while doing the objective as a recon sniper... Higher level armor might be annoying but the player is still just as easy to kill as before if you know what your doing. But anyways this is a Closed Beta, with a small player pool wait for open beta, then you will see the difference in matchmaking.
Now back on topic, I like the Idea of a time out penalty for quitting. IDK about 5 minutes though, I would penalize them 3 minutes. Some people will be quitting to join up with other people and to force all 4 people to wait 5 minutes i a little long, but I could still deal with a 5 minute timer.
